And so the build begins.....

The green roof is growing in GREAT! and keeping the coop nice and cool, to boot. So, now I have to get my butt in gear and finish the run. The Spoiled Chickens demand yard space!

What are the plants you have in their run?? Are they holding up well from all the chickens digging? My chickens can't free range anymore because of predators but I'd love to be able to have some plants in their run. Don't know if this is possible. My chickens are over a year old and will eat anything green. I need to take a updated picture of them and post it because I
also have 3 RSL(had 4 but lost one to a bobcat) and 2 leghorns.

There is thick patch of Vinca that was overgrown when I bought the house and seems to hold up to the chicken abuse really well. There are also about 2 dozen strawberry starts planted under cover of the vinca and it makes a nice 'hunt' for the girls (who get WAY excited whenever a new red strawberry ripens up and gets discovered). There is a badly abused texas privet that keeps growing back no matter how badly I hack it. 2 wild hollyhocks that just showed up this year, 2 hostas, a patch of chamomile (which also holds up to chicken abuse really well, and smells like heaven). and a couple of odds and ends from my regular garden that I move out to the chicken run when I can't find anywhere else for them.

Variety is the spice of chicken life. Or something like that.

Cheers,
Kat
