I have 10 young road island red chickens. They will not go up the ramp I made with cross wood strips The coop is about 3 ft off the ground. Has chicken wire around lower part. The ramp goes up trough the floor. Up in the coop there is 2 other ramps going up to the roosting branches. I put 2 tree branches up about 2 ft off the coop floor. But the chickens will not go up the ramp. It is cold now, so I put a heat lamp up in the coop with some feed and water. Even put feed on the ramp hoping they would eat their way up the ramp. Still no luck. I even caught them and put them up into the coop. They figured out how to get down the ramp. I find one up above once in a while, but when I check on them late at night when it is colder, they are all together down below. I would think they would want to go up the ramp to get to the heat lamp, but they don't go up. Any suggestions?

Hi there - you'll find you get better feedback if you go ahead and start your own thread in the section of the site more geared towards your situation (this thread is in the "Mobile Feedback" section regarding the mobile app for the site) -- when you post the thread, including photos of your setup will be helpful in allowing us to see possible causes to the issue you are having with your flock (ie being able to see the angle of the ramp as many times this issue is caused by a ramp that is too steep for the birds' liking). You may also want to remove the heat lamp - if your birds are over 6 weeks of age chances are they are fully feathered enough that the supplemental heat is doing more harm than good and they may actually be less inclined to go into the coop as the lamp can create a situation where it is too warm for them (our idea of cold and their idea of too cold are two different things). There are several sections that might better fit your post - I would suggest https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/2/managing-your-flock as it can cover different things that are at play here.
