I sure would examine it closely,you can try putting some ACV into his drinking container 1-2 Tab per gallon that can help kill some bacteria and can help heal too. Also Vetericyn spray for wounds and infections is good. Both of these mean not having to spread something on it if it's loose

Ok, great! Wanted to make sure before posting. So I noticed yesterday that the “bean” on his bill does not look normal. It is sticking out a little and looks almost bruised around the edges or like there’s dried blood there or something. I do not know much about this part of the bill. And I’ve never seen this in any of my other ducks. Can it get infected? What’s the cause and treatment? I’ll post a pic below. Also it was rainy here for a few days so there’s been a lot of mud (just adding this for info).

I agree it looks like he stuck his bill somewhere it didn’t belong. I bet it will heal up just fine.

Ok, great, thanks guys. Like I said I’ve never seen this with any of my other ducks and didn’t find anything doing a google search. I will add some acv to the water. Thanks again.

I could see that happening. .I had a cockatiel once that was always flying into walls and bloody n his beak.
It reminds me of that.

So I just went out to check on them and the bean fell off! I read somewhere (I can’t find it again) that the bean is like a fingernail and can shed. So maybe that’s what happened. It looks reddish brown now but hopefully will look normal over time. I’ll keep an eye on him and get another pic now.
