My two month old pita has a drooping wing on one side and what I am pretty sure is angel wing on the other side... can anyone confirm angel wing and give any tips on fixing it? Also, can anyone tell me if this duck's coloring looks typical for a mallard? He got really big really fast, he is twice the size of his girlfriend houdini and they were the same size exactly when we got them.
Thanks in advance,
worried new ducky mama

It is angel wing. Lower their protein content in their food by offering them lots of chopped greens (floating in there water and they won't leave them there for long!)
Also, you can wrap the wing into the right position with vet wrap (stretchy stuff they use for your arm when you give blood, you can find It in the first aid aisle (human lol)
What food are you feeding?

It looks like a cayuga mix

Agreed completely

Awesome, thanks for the info! Not sure what food they are on, hubby is in charge of that, but I will up their greens and find out about the feed, any suggestions for a specific feed? They don't often eat any greens I give them, but I didn't put it their pond!! I will have to try that!, they think they are chickens, they live with my chickens. I bought them as mallard, they looked like mallard babies when I got them, but I was confused by their coloring! Here is a baby pic

it doesn't really matter what breed they are, but we were hoping for mallards... hahahah.

They are technically mallards. All domestic ducks, save muscovies, are mallards, the mallard species.
I cut up the greens in like 1/4 in strip that are about 2 inches long.

I also cut up parsley and they loved that.

You may not be able to fix it now that it has been Going on for a while, but that's okay, they will still be happy ducks and it's worth a try. If anything it will help you know they are having issues with their feed possibly.
It's a theory that high protein causes angel wing, and this treatment I suggested has worked for others here on the board, so...for what that's worth lol.

If the other wing is drooping, you should wrap it too to prevent it from progressing.

Hi,

I had a duck that also developed angel wing and I did exactly what subhanalah states to do. I got a product called Micropore, which seems to be same as what is mentioned, I am from AUS. Any way I put the wing in place and taped it, but when I taped it I taped around the outer then under the wing (over the outer wing ad then under) and only did one side at a time, it really only took 1 week for each side. After three days I took the tape off and let my duck have a few hours free of tape and when I taped I tried to only put the first round on the feathers and then the over laps around I tried to go over the tape to save putting too much sticky on feathers. When I took it off, I carefully pulled and cut the tape and it worked a treat. After three days and then giving her a rest for a few hours I re taped that wing for a further 3 days and it was fixed...Also giving them a break after three days helps to reposition the wing due to feathers growing. Once that wing was fixed I did the other wing. it was a total success and she coped really well with just one wing taped and placed under the wing, not right around, she could get in and out of her bath and all was great and no stress to the bird other than when we had to catch her and take the tape off or retape...I know ppl say to tape both wings right around the body but I worried this would be stressful and did it differently and it worked! Good Luck.

Do the worst wing first, best to try and fix, as it is disfiguring to the bird and they get it caught on things, knocked easily etc etc, even if you do one side and there is huge improvement do the other and then go back and repeat once more...there is no harm done, but as with mine I totally fixed the problem and she was about the same age as yours maybe a bit older, as I thought it was just a growth thing, until I asked Miss Lydia (BYC member) and she gave me great advice... :)
