angry, angry and very angry

Sorry. Don't buy it. I teach children, many of whom have backgrounds that would make you cry. It is NEVER acceptable to be cruel to another sentient being. Ever. Period. They probably aren't future murderers, but "boys will be boys" doesn't work for me.

one of the reasons I don't live in a city or near a city is because of this type of behaviour from kids who haven't been taught about respecting animals . when I first moved in with my hubby we had a 6 month old Boxer/black lab mix. A super sweet dog. we moved in to a town home with a fenced in yard that led to the back of a huge field. well our dog usually would stay inthe yard while we were at work because he had chewing tendencies...like eating my wall. Well as the weeks progressed into spring and then summer we noticed our dog seemed down, almost depressed. One day I was suppossed to work but my hubby came home form his job sick and I decided to stay home with him. We let the dog out in the morning like we did every day. Since he liked being out there we decided to take a nap, after all my hubby had worked all night. I woke up to the dog barking up a storm anf the sound of things dinging onto the side of the house. I looked out the window and I was horrified to find several neighbourhood childen throwing rocks at my dog. I woke up my husband who ran out there screaming at them. the dog came back ina dn he had a small cut on his head. we treated it and then reported the incident to the landlord and the kids parents.
a week later I found my dog bleeding in the backyard, and tons of broekn glass bottles int he yard. I couldn't prove it was them, but I reported the incident regardless to the landlord and then the police who took a statement and then pictures of the dog and the yard. The landlord gave us the go to swith the chainlink fence for wood and so at our expense we did so, after all we still had 9 months left in our lease. it was the only way we could change the fence. A week after that we walked to the grocery store and we felt it would be fine to leave the dog outside. when we walked back home we cut through the back of the field and as we came past the clearing I saw my dog hanging from the outside of the fence and three kids hitting him with sticks. I was mortified and I almost immediately began crying. my husband ran the lengh of the field before the kids saw him. 2 neighbours had come out when they heard the screams coming from me and my hsuband and grabbed 2 of the kids, my husband grabbed the last one before he ran and held him there as he untied my dog. The kids had climbed in the yard (because there was no access door inthe yard) tied the leash around his neck and tossed him over the fence. My dog was slowly being strangled by the leash. When my hubby untied the dog, he fell tot he ground, and he was crying and not moving very much. I had to stop my husband from goign at the kids with the stick. We called the police and filed charges but nothing happened cause the kids were too young, but we did bring the kids to their homes and my husband carried the dog to whow the parents what their rotten kids did. 1 of the families moved away the next month. they got evicted. the other 2 punished their children and made them apologise to us and they paid for all the vet bills, which came to close to 2000.

However the story doesn't end here. a month and a half later we were haivng a get together with a couple neighbours (the ones that helped us) and their kids were playing in the field...then their 8 yr old daughter came up to us and said they couldn't kind their 3 yr old sister. the parents left and checked the house, she wasn't there and not the playground. I came home to get the phone for them and my dog jumped the fence and he was growling. I never ever saw my dog jump a fence and it scared me..we chased after him and found the 2 boys who injured my dog beating the lights out of this little 3 yr old girl, she was bloodied and cut, it was a terrible sight. the boys ran but my dog ran after them. he knocked one down and then kept going for the second who tired to run through the creek. the dog grabbed his shorts around the waitsband and dragged his butt all the way back top us. the boys ended up in juvenile detention, and the parents were charged by the police, not sure for what, but our neighbours moved 2 months later. The other kids parents tried to get the humane society and the police to take our dog and put it down because he grabbed one of the kids. The cops wouldn't have it because he was protecting the little girl. We moved not long after that. Failing to fulfill our lease or obvious reasons. But everytime that little girl was outside my dog would jump the fence and would go sit next to her, or follow her around the neighbourhood. the ordeal that my dog went through made him a very kind dog. So much so he ended up bring us back an injured rabbit a week before we moved. A fox had grabbed a hold of him. We named the rabbit MIlo and took it to the vet. he made a full recovery. Though my dog hated the fact the rabbit would try to hump him all the time!!!!!

repor tit before those kids do this to someone else. get a camera take pics. what ever you have to do...I for one I am glad I live nowhere near anyone else. the nearest neighbours with children, are 350 acres away

This is a great example of bad advice. By all means report what happened to the police but if you pepper spray those kids you'll be the one in handcuffs facing a far more serious charge that animal cruelty.

I agree with NYREDS

I also agree ~ treating violence with violence rarely is the answer.

We must also remember that the OP does not live in the U.S. but in Spain where the laws and enforcement may be very different from what we are accustomed to.

If my child had done something like this to someone else's livestock I would most defenitely want to know about it. Call the police and file a report. Do it now.

okay, you are going to laugh at this,
so the police came up at around 2 pm, and they saw the rabbit, one of them practically threw up (he keeps rabbits and wouldn't hurt a thing), and the other one, just went really quiet, they took a description of the boys (i can remember how they looked very well), and took pictures of the bruise on my pullets head, and of the rabbit. and just as they were leaving to go to the restaurant and ask the owners, we heard my chickens go crazy, i just looked at them and pointed at the coop, we run as fast as we could, but as quietly as we could, up to the coop, and low and behold, it was them, i went round the back, i couldn't stand it, the noise of them screeching. so we all go in there, catch them up, one of them starts crying, and says that he didnt mean it, that he didnt want to go to jail, and that he didnt want to have the death sentence, and the police said; well, youre lucky, cause in spain we dont have a death sentence, and you arent allowed to go to prison. )

so we go to the restaurant and the parents are all defensive, saying that their kids wouldn't do anything like that. after about half an hour of arguing one of the boys said; oh for god sake, yes we did do it!
they were given a warning, and Bob's your uncle. they were gone, as well as that, i sold 24 eggs to the police men. so i got my self new clients.
all the hens were a bit shaken up, but nothing major.
i'm glad that that is solved.... (i hope)

Ok, I'm calming down. I'll go back and read the posts and see what happened.
I'm so sorry for your loss. For your pets to die in such a way is horrible.
