Thanks everyone for your replies.

Yea, I was tired when I came home last night and was quite wound up.

The vet tech made the ASSUMPTION that the paper water bottle wrapper was chocolate. She made the ASSUMPTION that the pieces of bone she found were from bird bones, not the Ham bone that the dog had been chewing on. And when I tried to explain to her what the items really were, she treated me like I was lying to her. Ah, No. Do not treat me like that. The side of me that comes out has sharp claws and fangs. Grrrrr...

Believe me, I know about irresponsible pet owners. I helped at a vet's office. You see all kinds.

Anyhow, I am extremely lucky and thankful for the great treatment from the vet last night. The only person that tried to treat me like dirt was the little vet tech. And maybe she'll think twice before taking that tone with someone else.

Ouch! This hurts me on two levels, one being a vet tech myself and two that you encountered an employee that was rude.
Emergencies get priority over appointments in the clinic I work at so I'm sorry you had to wait so long but to be honest if I had seen a dog vomit bones, paper wrappers and feathers I too would have questioned the owners care if the dog eats all of this in a day; granted I wouldn't have went about it in the way the person you spoke to did.
They aren't always dumb kids on power trips.

I agree that there are two sides to the story. Working with my vet and rescuing dogs and cats....I found they get dumped on big time. Often leaving them with huge unpayed vet bills and animals that they need to find homes for because their "owner" abandaned them at the clinic.
I fuss about my vet being way to busy......but I love him and I am thankful for him.
Even though he does roll his eyes when I tell him how I treated this or that
sickness of one of my pets........he hates it when I do that......especially when I'm right LOL.....

Serendipity.......I know how hard it is when you get angry.......but try to remember all the idiots she see's that really do neglect/mistreat their animals. I think people forget that things are not always what the look like at first sight. I bet they see some very sad things and so she made a poor call on you. Try to forgive her and just be glad the dog is ok. You will feel better too

I just feel like they could look at the quality of the dog and know that it was not a normal day. He is clean, flea free, bright, healthy. DH thought he was in the house with me and I thought he was with DH. But "Traveler" was playing in the creek, visiting the hen house and carrying his bone around, oh, and getting hit by a car. Usually he's in the back yard when unattended.

We all feel horrible about our lapse in 'doggie coverage'. I had come in the house because my son had a boo boo that needed attention. DH thought the dog had come with me.

Anyway...

wow, sounds like that gal needed an attitude adjustment. makes me very grateful that i have great vets here. my small animal vet is a friend of DH's.... he's always calm, patient, kind. even when i call in a freak-out because one of the dogs has done something stupid. lol. and then my large animal vet who comes out for my alpacas is great too. pricey but seems good. and our one trip to the ER for a large animal, we went to Ohio State University, we were very grateful to be there a midnight with a sick alpaca and have about 10 people caring for her. unfortunately she passed away but they didn't mind my 400 calls during her surgery to check on her progress, etc.

at any rate, the best thing is that your doggy is okay, hope it doesn't need surgery.

I love the vet schools. I had a horse that poked a hole in his eye in 2003. It required two surgeries but he can still see out of that eye. The care he got at the NC State vet school was remarkable.

What's so funny is I can walk into my usual vet's office and everyone calls to me and asks how the family's doing & how the chickens are doing... My animals have been going there for about 20 years. But they're not open after 5pm.

All of these stories are proof of why it is a good idea to have an established relationship with a vet PRIOR to ever needing one. Once the staff get to know you through routine wellness checks and visits and they know what kind of an owner you are, it makes emergency visits much easier.
I have had the same vet for over 15 years. The couple of times when she has had to refer me to other doctors (usually because of the chickens...

), I get better results than if I called in myself, because she calls the other doc and tells them how attached I am to my birds and how I'm one of her favorite clients. Then they are much more likely to treat me well than if I just walked in off the street.

Almost unrelated but you know what also pisses me off becide rude people. Vet tech's that say they are a veterinarian... You go to 4 years of vet school to be a vet. AND you do a residency like a human doctor!!!! A vet tech is a tech... experienced can do almost everything a vet can do except write perscriptons, but like how a nurse cannot say they are a doctor, nor can a tech say they are a vet!!! Even if the registered nurse does what a doctor does all day!!! I say respect titles and let your experience show rather than bragging all day!!! Just a vent!!!

I have to say I have the best vet. He is so nice and the girls that work for him are even nicer. When my pup got hurt and I had to take him in they told me to leave him and they would call me as soon as they knew anything. They called to tell me he need surgery and that they would do it later that evening and that the girls in the office was fussing over my pup and they were carrying him around the office to make him comfortable. To this day if we go to the vet my dog can't get in the vet office fast enough to see them. They always baby him and give him treats. I can't believe they would let a tech talk to you that way and let her get away with it. I would tell them I'm taking my business else where and that I won't be recommending his office to anyone.
Glad to hear you dog will be ok.
