Animal control is on its way...Update post 73...

OK Kennabelle - I may have another option or two. I've heard cayenne pepper will deter dogs. You can try sprinkling some around the pen and see if a hot nose gives it the hint. The other possibility is to bury barbed wire about an inch down and a foot wide around the perimeter. Anything digging is going to get cut paws. And tell MIL you are doing it. Then it's on HER if her dog goes there again and comes home hurt.
Keep your big girl panties on and stick up for yourself, you'll be glad you did.
Good luck.

Barbed wire buried around the perimeter is a great idea. Never heard of doing that before!!

Jessi said she'll come over there and shot the darn dog and tell off your neighbor if you want! You could be like, "I don't even know that girl!!!!"

Update: They have a kennel!!

The down side....its not big enough for the dog. Which means that he will be able to take about 3 steps in any one direction and turn around IF he tucks his tail under...

Should we start a betting pool on how long it takes him to dig out?

Sorry to be so cynical but I have no hope...On the up side...I now know where DH keeps the key to the gun room and I will be getting some shooting lessons this week

How high is it?
Ive seen the neighbors dog in a kennel like that (with puppies and a dog house!!)
There as NO room for ANYTHING to move. A human baby couldnt even have enough room to crawl.
The mama dog crawled UP the chain link and got out (even with wood covering the top).

AC came and got the mom and pups thank goodness!

Just FYI, I have an area of the yard where one of the puppies likes to dig, so I covered up the whole (again) and poured cayenne pepper all over it, and pepper flakes as well. It worked well for keeping the dog from digging, but the chickens at all the pepper flakes

This will crack you up SarahFair....5 ft. The dog is a full grown Red Nosed Pit Bull. When he jumps on his owner and puts paws on shoulders, he is eye to eye. Neighbr is about 5'9".

Its hopeless....but I am trying to be optimistic...all while learning to load the gun.... Ughhhhhhhhhhhhh!

CF, You can do it. NO way I would stand for the dog to kill another animal. I would let the owner know that the next time, will be the last time. At least he would have forewarning of his dogs impending doom, if he cannot control it. After all what does this guy expect? Does he think you will continue to be the source of this dogs predation drive? I don't blame you for pulling out the gun at all. You go girl!!!!

Girly, 5' is not enough, heck 10' is not enough. Pit Bull's can climb trees, so I see no reason why chainlink would be any harder... if anything it'd be easier. Trust me, I've got one

CF-- I would opt for a 12 gauge if u have one- 00 buck load. keep the gun handy. put an extra round in him -- make sure he is not going to go home agn. Good luck- shoot straight .

Camelot ~ I hope you take your time with learning to shoot a gun and get proper training. Please take into account that people here are only giving you opinions/advice of what firearms to choose from and the cheering you on needs to be taken with caution.

Best of luck with your situation, and fingers crossed that your neighbor will keep him under control.
