Announcing the new BYC Reputation System: Ovations

Those are public knowledge and shown... in desktop mode on the homepage next to the ratings for popular threads, most posts per day, etc... it's just the individuals collection and point value of Ovates that is not public...

Yeah, I knew they were there, but I did not discover that till the last week and I wondered how many other people don't know about it. I wonder why individuals ovates are not shown.

I think a reason for not showing individual ovates was given earlier in this thread?

It was indeed. I know I don't want people checking out my ovates, nor do I have any desire to see anyone else's. I think those should remain between the giver and the recipient. I don't give out many - a long time ago when I first figured out what that silly egg meant, I came here to look into it further. There was a lot of discussion about ovates for popularity, etc. So that's when I decided that if I was going to give one, it would be because either I agreed very strongly with a post, or because I honestly learned something wonderful. So I'm kinda chinzy with them, I'm afraid.

Oh,me too, but as I said I kinda save them for posts that really ring a bell for me. So many people say such great things and share such awesome photos and videos that I'd be out of ovations the within first hour of every day, and sure enough, THAT would be when my fingers would be trying to hit that little button for a stand out post!

Oh, well i read to the fifth page and got bored and decided it did not matter. I used to give them out allll the time, now I give 1-3 a day if it was a really helpful post. The best spot to get them a ton is the caption contests. Lol. Ovates should not count in those.

I try to give the majority of mine for posts that are informative, or well written, but sometimes I give them for pictures that I like, or for funny posts.

I think you have to get some many to give so many...so not surprising that they are almost equal, mine are too.

The ovations here are kind of a silly thing IMO....should be used as 'likes' same as other forums and FB, a sign of acknowledgment and/or agreement.

I believe you're supposed to use ovations to 'vote' for pics.
