Another Hatching Thread?! - Peacocks, Jubliee Orps, Lavender Ameraucanas, and Laughing Chickens ❣️❣️

Im mad at myself for not updating this thread when I candled. But late is better than never.

This incubator is kind of on my nerves. I put in water all the time, but I’m really busy so sometimes I forget. Already I had a temp spike to 115° on day 2 and a temp spike on day 7 to 108°. Then last Thursday night, (Day 15) I checked the incubator and it was at 110° :he It still had water in the bucket and I was literally just about to fill it up. It was like that for less than 10 minutes.

Another thing I don’t like about this incubator is when I try to pull out the eggs, sometimes the eggs hit the top of the metal bars. I already lost one of the LA’s on day 1 to it and sometimes it gets really, really close to smashing up against the bar. Of course now I get nightmares of the eggs getting smushed.

SPOILER ALERT: I candled one of the AK’s a day after the 110° temp spike and it was still alive and kicking, but haven’t candled anymore. I think they will be ok, due to the fact it was probably like that for 10 minutes or less, but still kinda of heart stopping.

Overall the incubator is pretty good for the incubation part, just the ease is not good.

Anyways, back to stats:

0/5 Peafowl (PF) :barnie
3/4 Dark Brama (DB)
2/4? Lavender Orpington (LO)
2/2 Breed the Guy made up (RB)
2/2 Copper Marans (CM) Still could barely see anything but could see some veins!
0/2 Ayam Cemani Mixes ( AC)
6/7 Jubliee Orpingtons (JO)
3/6 Ayam Ketawa (AK)
3/5? Lavender Ameruacanas (LA)

Yes, I candled the peafowl on day 14 and there was nothing. I’m guessing they weren’t fertile. Because there was literally nothing.

I’m picking up 3 more peafowl tomorrow and the guy has more eggs. Hopefully I can get some of those and try again. If not, we are getting a laying hen that hopefully we can incubate those to when she lays enough! So hopefully I’ll have many chances to hatch peafowl!

There are ??’s next to the number of the LA’s and LO’s because I know one of the Lavender breeds didn’t make it but I cannot for the life of me remember for sure. I’m guessing it was one of the LA’s.

The reasons that I knew they were gone:

The Dark Brama was on watch, so I had a feeling it was dead last time, had no veins and no movement, cracked open, looked to be day 8.

The Lavender Ameruacana or Lavender Orpington had no veins and no movement. Day 9 death give or take.

The Ayam Ketawa was tiny, no veins, and no movement, day 8 death that I didn’t catch, give or take.

The Ayam Ketawa I originally put on watch is doing great! So moral of the story don’t throw out the ones you think are bad, unless you know.

Also one of the ones that was moving around a lot on day 9 looked that it developed 2 more days when I candled on day 14 instead of 5. Like it was really small. Picture:

This was on day 14 but looks to be day 11 of development. @Chookchicken suggested that I take it out if it doesn’t develop in a few days, so if it haven’t grown anymore when I candle tomorrow for lockdown, then I may throw it out…? But if it’s grown a bit more, depending on how far along it looks, I will either leave it in the incubator and candle daily until it looks big enough to be put on lockdown, or I’ll put it in the hatcher.

But yes, tomorrow is LOCKDOWNNNNNN! My plan is to set up the hatcher (pics later) and let it run for 24 hours, and then tomorrow I will candle and put the eggs on lockdown….! I’m howling these little survivors will survive to the end!

@K0k0shka sadly one of the JO’s didn’t make it but, 6/7 have so far! I’m super excited!

@the_peanut_coop sorry the PF’s didn’t make it, I know you were looking forward to those, hopefully I can try again!

See y’all tomorrow!

I hope it all works out okay :)

So I kinda suck at this updating… there are so many eggs :thud

This will be my Day 18/17 post and my next one will be what’s happening now.

Results:
0/5 Peafowl (PF) :barnie
3/4 Dark Brama (DB)
2/4 Lavender Orpington (LO)
2/2 Breed the Guy made up (RB)
2/2 Copper Marans (CM) Still could barely see anything but could see some veins!

4/5 Lavender Ameruacanas (LA)

Nothing died since day 16… :celebrateBut A LOT looked behind in development:mad: Only 5 looked big enough to put in. So that’s what I did. 5 on lockdown and the rest (18) still in the trays.

That’s pretty much it. I didn’t screw up on days 16 & 17 so yeah!

The pics aren’t very good.

I’m the pictures you may say that they look ok, but the top has a lot of space. :(

That was day 18 update, next post will be day 20 updates!

So this morning I got up and I wanted to grab a couple to candle. I grabbed some and they were growing, and looked a lot better!

After candling 3 more eggs, I was like, ok I’ll grab one more to candle. I’m glad I did, because there was a tiny pip! The problem:
It’s was in the middle of the egg.

The chick was malpositioned.

I was like ok, gotta leave it alone for at least 24 hours, unless it looks like it’s struggling. When I looked at it 3 hours later it had made a much bigger pip. Wish I got a picture. So he is currently resting. Oh it was a Jubilee Orpington!

Anyways earlier tonight I candled all of the eggs. (the ones on lockdown, and the ones In the turning trays.)

ALMOST ALL OF THEM WERE SHADOWING.

They looked so behind all another at day 18 but day 20 they are pushing against that membrane!

These are results:
6/7 JO made it to day 18 and 6/6 made it to lockdown. One is internally pip (the right way) and peeping. One is malpositioned and most of the rest are shadowing.

3/6 AK made it to Day 18 and 0/3 are ready for lockdown. Look to be day 13 currently. ☹️

3/4 DB made it to day 18 and 1/3 is ready for lockdown.

2/2 CM made it to day 18 and 1/2 is ready for lockdown (internal pip)

4/5 LA made it to day 18 and 3/4 are ready for lockdown!

3/4 LO made it to day 18 and 1/3 is ready for lockdown!

2/2 RB made it today 18 and 1/2 is ready for lockdown!

So in the incubator we still have… 3 AK, 3 LO, 1 RB, 1 CM, 2 DB.
Hopefully I can update tomorrow with good news! :fl
