Another Hatching Thread?! - Peacocks, Jubliee Orps, Lavender Ameraucanas, and Laughing Chickens ❣️❣️

Here is the new incubator. I moved all eggs but the peacock eggs into this one. The peafowl eggs didn’t fit. When I got the incubator the guy gave me a dozen of eggs so I’ve set those already.

Very front 4 are Dark Brahmas.
2 Middle are Copper Marans
4 to the top of the marans is Lavendar Orp
2 very top is a breed that the guy has made up himself... so we will se where that goes 😅

Once I got it cleaned out ( It was NASTY) I set up the incubator. I didn’t wanna put in any water until the humidity went down (78%!) So I didn’t. Next thing I know, the alarms that tell you when your humidity and temp is too high or low, are going off! I run down stairs where it is and realize...

SHOOT!!! MY INCUBATOR IS 115° F!!!!!!!

I know... I should have added water. My last hatch had too cold of temp for awhile, and of course this hatch had already gone AMAZING.🙄

Anyways. The temp was like this for less than 10 minutes. I ran to get water faster than you could blink and filled the bucket of water up.

Ok. I’m ready for the “really Taylor? You’re that stupid? and I thought you would know better then that!”

Anyone wanna tell me that it’s a-ok and I have nothing to worry about 😅 anyone?
You have nothing to worry about :)...... 😬

Good Morning/Afternoon to y’all! It’s morning for me but got include the afternooners…. ya I don’t think that’s a word. Anyways…. I’m gonna get started on my report!

As some of you may know… my incubator went to 115° F for about 10 minutes on Day 1 for half and day 0 for the other half. Yeah. Not Good.

As I was putting them back in the incubator, one of the Lavendar Ameruacanas was pushed against one of the large metal bars. The poor thing cracked. So I was down one LA.

I didn’t have any more problems until I forgot to put water in it again and it spiked to 108 for 10 minutes or less on Days 7&6. Oops.

Then I couldn’t candle on Day 6&7 or Day 7&8 because somethings came up.

So I ended up candling the LA’s, JO’s, AK’s and peafowl on Day 9, and candled the LO’s, CM’s, RB’s and DB’s on day 8.

It was an amazing experience. Almost every single egg had something alive and moving. I could clearly see the eye and shape of the chick in a lot of them. I loved watching the babies move.

Results:
5/5 Peafowl (PF) ( couldn’t really tell anything yet, to early)
4/4 Dark Bramas (DB)
3/4 Lavender Orpingtons (LO)
2/2 Of the breed the guy made up himself (RB)
2/2 Marans (CM) (only could see an air elk due to dark shell)
0/2 Ayam Cemani Mixes (AC)
7/7 Jubilee Orpingtons (YAY)
4/6 Ayam Ketawa’s (AK)
4/5 Lavendar Ameruacanas (LA)

The LO the didn’t make it was SUPER porous.
One AC mix had a tiny blood ring and one was infertile.
The LA was pushed against a bar
One of the AK had a huge blood ring and the other… well met a sad fate:
I started putting the eggs all in the incubator, when I saw one with a crack and a bit of blood pooled around it. It was an AK. I was kinda nervous about putting candle wax on it, and I knew my dad (who had bought the eggs for me to incubate) would not be happy. I had and still have no idea how in the world it cracked. I felt so bad. This incubator is quickly becoming a horrible thing disguised as a blessing. I hope nothing else happens wrong when about everything else has.

Now back to happy news: CANDLING PICS!!

Sorry about the blurry pics! I will try to upload a video of one of the AK’s going crazy. The Ak’s were my absolute FAVORITE to candle, you so clearly see everything going on

Wohoo!!! I was definitely checking for the Jubilee count :wee
Glad to hear that (most of) the babies are okay! Were you using the LG incubator for this hatch? I've lost track of my various threads and hatches that I'm following, sorry if you said that and I forgot. I hate the LG. My husband (who was against chickens initially) has gotten so sucked into this hobby that now he wants to build a fancy hi-tech DIY incubator for "next time" (though I wasn't even planning on a "next time")

How in the world did I stop receiving notifications?! I actually got a new incubator (rite farm pro 264) about 2.5 weeks ago and I’ve been using that for all of the chicken eggs. However for the peafowl I’ve been using the LG (ew) because peafowl need higher humidity and they won’t fit in the trays.

Also, good luck with your DIY incubator! 😂 It’s kinda fun how chickens can do that to you. One minute you’re against all things chicken and the next your so in love you want to spend your whole paycheck on them. (I may or may not be guilty of this)
