Another Lavender Orpington sexing question.

Today I can add:

If these are boys, my resident rooster and cockerels have not shown any aggression towards them. Yesterday a couple hens pecked them and put them in their place. I must have very tolerant boys. I will be on the lookout for any signs of the cockerels trying to mate them.

I think that the general consensus is that you have one cockerel, the one with it's head in the bushes on the last few pictures.

I think that they are definitely pullets. Our cockerel already had saddle feathers and a great big tail and comb at that age, and, though this varies between roosters, you’d probably start to hear crowing any day now. Here’s a picture of our boy at 17 Weeks.

I’m not sure if he’s a special case, but I’m gonna guess that if you had a cockerel you’d probably know for sure by now.

Thank you! I think your reasoning is sound. My chocolate Orpington is younger than these, and he has already started crowing. And most of the time the cockerels are more obvious at this age. The real concern here is if these are late bloomers. Since I’ve been searching for LO cockerel photos, it’s come up a lot that they are often late bloomers. But your photo gives me hope that maybe I have at least one pullet.

Well I think I goofed again. :( In my search for hens for my chocolate orp cockerel, I found some Barred/cuckoo ones.

Here is the photo the seller sent me of his chocolate cuckoo Orpington “pullet”, supposedly 5 months old. I thought “she” was beautiful, so I went and bought her today:

(Sorry it’s sideways)

I’m such a dunce. I’m so sick of getting fooled by these pullets, that I combed that photo for signs of maleness, and I thought it was ok. But now that it’s walking around in my yard, I can’t make myself believe it’s a girl.

What do you all think? This one was too expensive to accept it as a boy. I’m afraid I’m going to have to ask the seller to refund it. But I want to make sure before I ask.

It’s dark out now, so more photos will have to wait until morning.

@Faraday40 @homeschoolin momma can I get you two to weigh in on this one?

Hard to tell because of the coloring if there are pointy saddle feathers. Can you get a close-up of the saddle area or maybe look closely yourself and see if you see pointy saddle feathers?😊

I also think pullet based on wattled and comb development at 5 mo. A 5 mo old cockerel would have a much larger comb. But yes, seeing a better picture of her saddles feathers would seal the deal.
