(another) ventilation question

is there any reason these wouldn’t work on my open soffit vents?

i know the go-to is to cover the opening with hardware cloth, but these are just as open and look like they’d do a much better job with rain and snow. plus they’ll look better from outside.

While those look nice they really aren't more or even as secure as hardware cloth would be. They have only 2 screws holding them if installed as designed.

I put my hardware cloth on the inside.....This allowed me to keep the board on the front.

even if i didn’t add a couple of screws, surely two 3” long wood screws are gonna keep out anything small enough to squeeze through my 4” opening, no?

The thing is that raccoons can pry those off literally forcing the screws to rip through the thin metal.

It would be a tight squeeze at 4" but a determined predator would definitely attempt it.

Are you attaching to the ends of the rafter tails or to the underside of the rafter tails?

if i go with vents over HC, then i’ll sister blocks to the rafters so that i can mount the vent flush with the wall of my coop to make a tight fit.

Best to have HWC under those vents if possible - while louvered covers are good for keeping rain and snow out, they're not really designed to exclude pests and predators.

Tricky install either way.
No fascia make keeping blowing snow out.
I use furnace filter to block soffit openings where snow can blow in.

this is how i got the idea of the vents. they’ll let the air out but they’ll block snow from getting in
