Answer to the Delaware Dilemma

Kathy, I'm sorry but I can't look past how dark those roo's tails all are.
I look at the bird and my attention goes directly to the tail, for me the imperfection overshadows everything else.

They're meaty and round, not lanky looking at all. They have nice 5 point combs. But those tails,

It's all I can concentrate on.
How do you plan on working that color out?

ETA: I mean these comments in a completely objective and non harmful manner. This is me voicing my opinion, is all.

Could be the lighting

They do appear dark, but so do some of my birds pics, when in reality...they are not THAT dark at all. Do the pics do them accurately kathy?

Good point, it could also be the camera itself.
I know my camera tends to photograph things brighter than they actually are, I think it has something to do with the macro settings.

Yep. All her pics appear to have been taken under a shade tree as well...that could have something to do with it. Only one tail is in direct sunlight, and not much of it. I think it may be mostly the lighting. I love the way those boys tails just slide right off their backs with no breaks. Mine are not near that good...YET

I'm in the middle of a thunderstorm, and I keep losing connection ...

Yes they are dark, but probably not as dark as the pictures, because my whole place is shaded. I am not concerned with the tail color at this point. That will come much later ..... remember ..... build the barn before you paint it!

It's raining everywhere but in California! My parents in TX said they just got 8.5 inches in the past 2 days. I miss thunderstorms, all we get here are awful sea storms, low flat clouds with no lightening or thunder. UGH.

I remember, conformation and type first, then concentrate on color. I'm just wondering how hard (or how long?) will it take to then breed towards the correct color once you reach an acceptable example of the standard size wise.

The first thing that comes to mind when I see that roo is that he looks THICK! His back is certainly broad. Who did you rehome him to? Could you contact them and ask for updated pictures?

My biggest fear is letting go of a bird that somebody will send me a picture of months, maybe even years down the road that looks absolutely gorgeous. Living in an urban environment forces me to sometimes make decisions much sooner than I would like to, I try to hold onto the birds that I like for as long as possible (until I'm basically bursting at the seams) and then make the decision who has to go.

I envy your shaded acres Kathy!

If I knew who I gave it to I would call them! I gave away about 50 birds to one person one day, and I do not recall the name. I know I wrote it down somewhere, because she wanted me to call her if I had any more! I think I threw away the paper though!

I KNEW when I culled this bunch that it was too soon. I was looking at all the wrong things .... like the comb!

Well, there's no point in dwelling on the past. That roo to me looks like he has the bowl shape but other than his tail his color is very messy.

I would rather work with Jacob, he's got the round shape too, with less color faults. No regrets Kathy!
