Answer to the Delaware Dilemma

Ok, here's a question I've been noticing in my boys....Most of their barred feathers appear to be both barred AND laced.

Is this correct? I know the hens are supposed to have white laced black feathers, so it makes sense that there would also be lacing on the tail feathers of the males, but when I look very very very closely, I can see that each hackle feather on ALL of them is also laced, and the majority of the tail and saddle feathers in both sexes, but more visible in the males since my females have very little tail black.

Is this Columbian influence? Indicative of more recent Columbian influence? Or is it something different all together?

I have always been told and read that that is a Columbian influence. I never breed one that shows that. If they were supposed to have it... it would be in the SOP

Thank you for the help and suggestions! You can pm or email me stuff if you don't want to post it here. I have to work today, so don't know how much I can do. Marty has the website, so anyone who wants to help with that will have to get info from him. I also have 4 responses from the Yahoo Delaware group who want to be included in the club -

Im hoping you guys attract some breederes to the yahoo club that are otherwise just quietly doing thier breeding bizzness...there are a lot of people out there that are just quiet and not on internet, we just talked to someone from canada who has a freind who has some great show winning australorps, he doesnt have internet and uses his brothers cell phone as a contact...

If we cant get this right and its an american breed , who can? This breed is on the critical list for a reason..too many crosses and not the correct crosses.light susex has nice del like shape and similar color but its not a del. yet its added to boost fertility ..incorrect but its done as well as columbian....Is there any reason some of the foundation birds couldnt be re-introduced ? Is it the fear of red like the new hampshires or whatever the foundation flocks were? I would think that could all be worked back out, Is it that we are american and we want everything instant? instant coffee, instant soup, and instant deleware? I have a freiond who added SQ hampshire reds he said there is a method to it which I mentioned earlier but cant remember but I'll be darned he got exactly what he was after..I dont understand the complex methond he was using cause I have my own things Imtrying to work out right now.. I want to get over there and take some more pics of what hes doing..

I would but even finding quality NH is as hard as finding Dels....I agree though it looks like there is light Sussex in some I think the breeder I got mine from has crossed them with BR's time will tell as I will be hatching some in November hoping to get some nice enough to show the public.
