That Chickens name (was) MONEY..
He belonged to Rick Vindike, Sadley MONEY died this spring. Have you ever seen a grown man cry? I have never seen a man get so attached to his prize bird. He named him MONEY cause he spent a lot of money on finding good breeding stock and settled on money for the flock boss..He was just setting up for this spring breeeding season , breed him this year and probably next 2 years get as many as he could out of him then he and I were going to campain him and treat him to show life and living like a king . Rick is a little busier than I am so I was going to get the show needs like pullorum tests done ready for show and show prep and helped him get feeds appropriate for that ect... he had a hen we were going to take out this year but decided to just wait, a set back but not detered. He renovated a huge dairey barn into a chicken set up, brooders hatchery heated pens ect....
we were all at work that day but a freak wind storm and poss tornadoes came out of nowhere. We were all a little worried what we might find when we got home, was the roof on the house still there? did the chicken coop blow away? I got home and everything was OK . But he got home , fo8und they might have taken the worst of it, some of his barn roof had blown off, money must have gotten slammed into the fence , he found him laying right against the fenceing, and one hen might have gotten blown around and died as well they had a choice to go inside but maybe they just got caught out in it. not real sure .
He spent some More MONEY and bought a couple more. so we are watching this new cockeral for next year , he would rather take the sert back , so hes still a couple years out , wants to earn his stripes then settle into breeding poss selling but keep numbers somewhat low and high grade. .
Rick also bought a few show new hampshires? Good looking birds, he planned and Im not sure how this goes but if you cross NH hen with Del roo you get del colored offspring, now I cant remember exactly how this goes but if you cross del hen with NH roo you get sex link..he knows what hes talking about but I didnt , sure enough right off the bat he got the sport , this was befor he bought the new birds.
So no its not my breed of choice, I a determined Australorp breeder. No easy feat, few if any top breeders here. an APA judge freind of mine has set me up with some people but there is a lot of work to be done on this breed, APA freind kind of wants me to work on a different breed but like I said Im determined. Ive got some blue ribbons behind me and a BOB but want to move up so working with a few breeders next spring, one has east coast champions. I am interested in Dels, Maybe someday I will have a few. The judge and Rick will probably wear me down, the birds are beautiful and maybe they will wear me down.
