Antibiotics and egg consumption

So what's the story with antibiotics and egg consumption? The pack of duramycin I got at the feed store says not to use on chickens producing eggs for human consumption. The vet said something similar, although he was very inexperienced with poultry. Can I use duramycin or not and still eat the eggs after a certain amount of time?

My vet told me to discard eggs for the duration of treatment and 15 days post treatment.
This is a good reason not to medicate birds unless one knows for sure there is a bacterial infection that requires the anti-biotic.

Hello and Welcome To BYC! The problem seems to be most antibiotics don't have an official withdrawal time for eating eggs or there is no official ppm for residuals in eggs, so most seem to go with just a general don't eat for two-three weeks after giving antibiotics/ wormers etc. Some people do eat the eggs sooner, some don't ... problem being if someone eats the eggs who has an allergy to the drug, it could cause an allergic reaction.

Eventually all these drugs break down in the tissues of the bird and are no longer present, depending on the drug. Duramycin has a 21 day egg and meat with drawal. So what this means is, if you eat the eggs during this period, you could have a reaction to the drug, and you are getting tiny portions of this antibiotics and can make you resistant in the future to antibiotics, or at least this one. Lots of people do eat the eggs with no ill effect, but I prefer to wait it out. After 3 weeks, there will be no trace of this drug in the chickens body. Do not refeed the eggs back to the birds either during this 3 week period as you are remedicating them.

When I use something like that I feed the egg's back to the poultry for 30 day's but that is me
