Antibiotics Question

@casportpony Wow, that picture of the trachea is super helpful- I've been wondering where exactly it is located. I'm so terrified I'm going to cause her to aspirate. It is extremely wonderful of you to walk me through this- I'm feeling a lot better!

When you do the method the way it is described in the Hopkins article, would you inject the medicine all at once, or gradually?

Is this another okay method? It looks like she isn't putting it down as far...

I find that method too risky. That method relies on them swallowing, which means you have to give a small amount at a time. I'm all about getting it done quick, and done properly, there is zero risk in them aspirating any. But you're the one doing it, so do what you're comfortable doing. I'll PM you my number so you can call me if you want.

If you decide to call, I can also have Mike tell you what made it easy for him to do for the first time.

Edited to add:
We're in CA, so you can call up to 9pm West Coast time.

@casportpony Thank you for entrusting me with your number!! Last night I had every intention of giving my hen the Tylan 50, that is until my mother (who happens to be a nurse) broke the needle I needed to get the meds out of the bottle

. When we went to call the local tractor supply to ask if they had any, they informed us that Massachusetts doesn't allow people to buy needles without a prescription from the vet. We finally bought needles and syringes in CT, but I haven't given them to her yet, because today, Day 10 on the Duramycin, she seems to have improved greatly… No sniffling or congestion! I'm going to see how she is tomorrow, and also call my vet, who is back tomorrow from vacation. Maybe I can make an appointment for her to see what this illness is.

You have been a huge help to me and Mary the chicken. I'm hoping that she's going to get better, maybe even without giving her more medicine. You really cleared things up for me, and made me a lot less terrified to give her that medicine.
