Ant's will chicken's eat ant's?

Australorps, Easter eggers, and Silver Laced wyandottes.

The easter eggers and australorps are especially partial to the ants... The silver laced wyandottes like them and will eat them, but only if it's an easy catch.

I was amazed at their capabilities for fire ant removal. I was only gone but a minute to get them some fresh water. I came back and they were almost done eliminating the ant pile on my garden hose!

I was terrified the ants were going to get them though... They were only five weeks old. Good thing they went after a small pile.

Mine won't eat ants. If they did, I wouldn't have to buy chicken feed.

I wish they would eat ants.

Maybe it's just Arizona ants that they won't eat.

All I have are the medium black ant’s and small brown ant’s no fire ants that I’ve seen.
MaggieRae- I would also like to know what kind of chicken’s you have that love ant’s?

MaggieRae- Darn I don’t have any of those kinds of chickens coming, but is and Easter Egger close to an aumericana(?sp) ?

I'm pretty sure these are a mix with that breed.

If it moves *or doesn't* and can fit in their beak, it's gone... They usually stick with mosquitoes and ants so far *Our more prominent insect sources*. They seem afraid to play in the grass unless I stay out there with them.

I have 5 RIR's and about 100 gazzillion ants.. When we first got the chicks, they absolutely went NUTS with chasing every ant they saw... But, after a few months of watching the ground move, they got bored.. Now they will get them if they are scratching for other stuff but otherwise leave them alone...

And yes, they are fire ants... Doused the entire coop with sevin 5% and I at first thought the ants were going into convulsions but then i just realized they were laughing hysterically...

Mine love the big black or red ants, they will eat the smaller ones too. I had a buttercup the loved fire ants, she would raid mounds as they formed. A stray dog killed her and now I have fire ants again. I've got 5 silkies that I seldom see eat any insects.
