Anxiously Waiting

I'm sorry to hear that. I burried the first chicks I lost in my raised bed garden. There's a huge rosemary bush where they were buried now. It is hard but it gets easier the more experience you get. The incubating part, not the losing chicks. I still hate losing a chick even though I know it's just nature at work.
I had tried to prepaid myself for if he didn't make it. Still ended up all cry baby. I can't help it. I'm a sucker for all critters I guess. But I won't give up. Just keep trying.

Now that was funny. I didn't think that I had moved out of AZ. :gigI'm rural outside of the city of Maricopa, near the Harrah's Ak-Chin Casino.
I'm in Tucson near Marana. I know my Jeep won't make the drive, but let me see if the mister has some time free to take me to bring some. He is at work right now and I am just going in to work, but I will get ahold of you later tonight! Btw, ty for the offer!

Your welcome! I thought I could at least offer, since I am about to start a batch of mine going. My incubator can hold up to 42 eggs in the turner. I will only be putting about a dozen of mine in it this time.

I checked on him and could tell he wasn't going to make it and was on his way out. I held him close n kept him warm until he passed. I wasn't going to let him die alone.

My son and I decided to bury him and replant a plant above him. We are both real artistic, so he is going to help make him a little flagstone headstone for his own personal garden.

I am super appreciative of all of the advice you all have given! On a positive not I learned a ton, got hands on experience with clubbed foot correction and splayed leg correction, and when I decide to try again I will be much more prepared.
I am going to spend some time gathering some "just in case" materials and make some changes to both my hens feeding and their housing, set up a more efficient incubator and brooder box that are easier to make adjustments to and are more effective, and then I will apply all I have learned to trying again.
I will probably have a TON of questions throughout this process, and I look forward to more advice and encouragement. You all have been amazing!!!

I was heartbroken to read this update. At least he had a fighting chance. You can take some comfort in that. I'm sure your next hatch will more successful.

Hi! So sorry I am just getting to you. So much came up and we were super busy and I feel like a jerk.
So, for Xmas I got an incubator!!! I started with 9 eggs. By day 18 I had 7 left, but one we were pretty sure was a dud. On day 19, 2 pipped. 23hrs later neither had hatched, but two more had pipped. A few hours later (day 20) one of the first pipped hatched! The other one we think died mid hatch. This morning (day 21) we wake up and another has hatched, another working on zipping! We are unsure if the other two are going to pip, still early in the hatch, but I am beyond excited!!! One is yellow, another is black with a white belly. I have three roosters and 5 diff types of hens, so I have no clue what combo these guys are just yet 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Thank u again for offering to try to hatch some of my eggs for me. It really means a lot to me!
I will post pics of my new babies soon!!!

It was so sad! But he is living on in his own garden.
This hatch has gone way better! Got an incubator and so far 2 have hatched!! They are soooooo cute!!!!

Well hatch attempt #2 went a little better. Out of 6 eggs we had 2 hatch and survive, one die during pipping, one die shortly after hatching, and two that haven't done anything yet (but we are giving them a couple more days). Here are the two survivors!!! Goldilocks and Erzi (Erzibet). I love them both already!! Cutest things ever!!! We will try another hatch soon. I am being more selective about which eggs I use, and Im going to make a couple adjustments. I am just happy two made it!!!

Both babies are doing great! I am pretty sure they are roosters, so we are going to build a home for just the boys to live (we now have 5 roosters and 8 hens🤣🤣. But I am still excited. Down to 8 eggs from 10 on new batch of eggs. Will post updates!!
