any advice on lockdown?

Yay how exciting!!!! I can't wait to get home. Did you manage to get tomorrow off work? Lol

I won't be able to take the whole day off, but I only work about 15 minutes from home, so I will make a mid-day trip home to peek at what's going on!

How long until you get home?

I had 3 pips in one incubator, and 1 in the other when I left a couple of hours ago.

Ah not too bad then, I'm about an hours drive. I have 2 hours left at work so will be home in about 3! Aw it's so exciting!! How many are you hatching? Is it the hard bit to get them to pip externally? Should it be pretty smooth now?

You have an awesome incubator, so hopefully it will be smooth sailing and you will just get to enjoy the show! Beware, you are going to fall madly in love with these babies!

Wow, that was nice of your work folks! And progress is progress. Talk to them, sing to them! Shine your light on them. They will usually respond. There are some good youtube videos of chicks chirping that you can also play and get responses from them.

Things to watch out for now are brown membranes, pips toward the floor, or on the wrong place on the egg, or any that may look totally still for long periods of time.

Enjoy!

I work in a vets so colleagues are all animal lovers so they understand lol. Oh, I did wonder about playing a YouTube clip, I will do that now!! How are your pips? Does a brown membrane mean that it's too dry? I still haven't seen the eggs move but I've heard squeaking and tapping :D

Oh that's awesome! Yes, play the videos. Its so cute when they cheep back.

Yes, a brown membrane would mean that he is drying out inside. Usually they move around just enough to keep the membrane moist, so it will stay white and papery looking. If they stay still too long, it may turn brown, and then can get stuck to the feathers, and kinda glue him in place. So you want it to stay looking white to gray.

I ran home at lunch time and have one that has hatched. 2 others in that incubator have pips, and 2 in the other incubator.

All membranes are white at the mo! I played videos and they chirped back! So cute. Ah cute!!! Congratulations. At least I'm off tomorrow now - I feel like I'm not going to be able to do anythi no else other than watch them ha.
