I found my people! I didn’t know this thread existed. I’m a pet portrait artist. I love drawing animals! I work in graphite oils acrylic and watercolor. I’m so glad I found this thread!

Here’s just a couple. I finished the dog a bit back as a commission and I just started the hen for a watercolor of our sweet Hattie-Patty. We just lost her. So I’m making a memorial portrait for my son. She was his girl.

You judge shows too, right? Think I heard it from somewhere...

Total opposite for me. I don't draw extremely realistic, but I also can't do simple. Totally jealous of those who can whip up something in just a few minutes. That's skill.

My friend was like: draw me! As a cartoon! And I was like nopeity nope I’m not even drawing you in my usual style it will take too long
But she wanted me to draw her and since she’s moving out of state soon I thought it would be good to have something in my sketchbook to remember her by.
So I forced her to stand in a pose so I could draw her, like one of those royal commissions.
It had to be uncomfortable. But I did. I don’t think it turned out recognizably as her but it’s alright. But I guess we got what we wanted.

The dog has lovely shining fur. I think art is a beautiful way to remember those we’ve lost.

You know, historically I haven’t. But the last portrait I was really considering it. I just decided not to experiment on the finished one. If you use one, I would be open to hearing what’s worked well for you so I can avoid the trial process.
