Alright I guess in order to write about it, I’ll have to experience it.
I’m going glasses and contacts free today
I’ll wear them while at work and at driving, though. I only want to be an impediment to myself, not others.

good luck. personally as a fellow terrible vision glasses wearer it would be neat to see a character with no glasses at first and then get some over the course of the story. always fun to add details too; like how they always fog up when we try to drink a hot coffee or soup, or how sometimes I forget when I've taken them off and will keep touching my noes bridge haha

Y'all I have a character design question: I want to write this fantasy story and the main character has myopia because I feel like that isn't really considered in medieval fantasy. I have terrible vision without my glasses. The main character, Perri is kinda a bit like a cooler self-insert but let's ignore that rn.
Perri is a dragonslayer for hire and she grew up in the forest with some dwarves. I feel like dwarves could be capable of creating technology outside of the time like glasses, but from a reader's standpoint, is it more interesting to read about a character who has glasses like you or to read about a character who has to overcome the challenges of bad vision in a glasses-free world and life-or-death situations?

Maybe write a backstory to how her vision got bad too. Like is it hereditary, an accident, etc.

Hereditary, like mine. Presumably. Her parents are unknown and irrelevant to the plot.
Her backstory is chaotic enough. She was found as a baby in a woods that fills with monsters that kill you at night by some dwarves that live in a house in said forest and she was raised by them in that house.

No I am definitely blind.
I can see clearly up to a foot away, which is too bad because I get cross eyed holding my phone and book up close.
I can pass the finger test but I can’t read anything on the board, recognize anyone in the hall, or navigate places easily.
Also, everyone’s physical appearance suddenly matters a lot less than me because to actually see their face I’d have to get uncomfortably close so I guess that’s a plus, I’m less judgmental of myself and others?

I don’t even know how I would write it or how she would overcome those challenges. But that is what makes it so creative and new, I don’t know that it’s been done before.

You could write it from the stand point of she lives with it because there's no option, and then mid story she's given corrective lenses and how that affects her. It would be weird to be able to see so clearly i would think.

It would be cool if not being able to see well made her excellent at her job. She can hunt dragons like no other, because she can't see.

Could be they're less scary when they're just a blob, or they sound or smell a certain way when they're vulnerable. Something that she might get distracted from when she can see.

I think the point of my story is she is good at killing dragons but she’s not the best out there. She’s physically weaker than a man in a fight, but it doesn’t matter in the context of a dragon, because you can’t beat a dragon with brawn anyway. Ultimately, she must learn to realize her own strengths, even if she is weaker and with poorer vision than her rivals. It’s possible that she never even realized her vision was bad until she got to humanity, because her aging dwarf family has bad vision too. (Minus Clowny, who is younger.)
I’m not sure that I want to give her corrective lenses later or not though.

Maybe what she means is that not being able to see allowed her to train her other 4 senses? Maybe not taste lol, but perhaps her hearing or smth is “extra” good?? So like she struggles with eyesight but once she gets glasses or contacts and whatever she finally realizes her full potential? Not sure if that’s the story ur aiming for
