A few days ago, I submitted an article to a new Christian Homesteading publication that is debuting thsi fall.
I have no idea if it will be published or not, but thought I would share a portion of it here.
If you would like to read the rest, PM me, and I will send you the rest.
As Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we understand that we are to live set apart lives in the world.
Daily, we are faced with various trials and temptations that beckon us to go over to the worlds ways.
We all know that in order to grow as Believers, we must be well nourished in Gods Word, and not the word of man.
There is one other kind of nourishment that we also need, and that is physical nourishment.
All of us at one time or another have felt the faintness of hunger, or the ill feeling after eating a food that is unhealthy.
1 Timothy 4:1-5 addresses an aspect of food that I would like to focus on today.
This passage states, Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain form certain foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
We know that the food this passage is talking about is food sacrificed to idols. However, there is another layer to this that has really stuck out to me. There is much more to this passage. God created to be received with thanksgiving
every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
Everywhere we turn, we see people in physical distress due to the modern diets that are placed before us.
Every week, some new diet cure is discovered. We are told not to eat various foods. We are assured if we do eat this food or that food, (often a processed product) that we will find optimal health as a result.
In the last 100 years or so, we have undergone a food revolution. Progress has brought us commercial farms that yield modified and processed foods that are promised to save world hunger.
Large farms pack massive numbers of animals inside pens and buildings. Massive levels of antibiotics are needed to sustain life under these circumstances.
Genetic modification has been utilized. Large factories churn out massive amounts of prepackaged, processed convenience foods.
At the same time, we have witnessed a steady rise in modern disease.
Diseases that our ancestors rarely saw. Lets touch on a few of these, to get a grasp of where we are today.
Did you know, that a little over 100 years ago, tooth decay was at about 1%?
Today, tooth decay is at 80% and rising.
At the turn of the 20th century, heart disease was not listed in medical books. It was a rare occurrence!
Today, it is estimated that half our population dies from cardiovascular disease.
Diabetes is fast climbing the charts as well. I think I can safely say, that all of us know several people with diabetes today.
Skin cancer rates are also climbing very fast.
Infertility visits one in four couples today. PJR
