Any Chance of getting an area Specifically for Organic Q's

I think it would be a great idea, too. And really it shouldn't be listed in the Meat section, because many people want to raise organically produced eggs as well.

If it is a hot-button topic (which I doubt) then post a sticky at the beginning like they do in the Predators and Pests forum. Would it really be more controversial that posting about shooting and poisoning your neighbors dogs?

I like this idea, my husband and I desperately try to garden without chemicals (which is really discouraging when you're corn is only four feet high and nearly all the neighbors are twice that size or larger). We also like the idea of perma-culture with chickens, we use the chicken litter in our yard bare spots and to fertilize our gardens with (in either empty areas or else when it has cooled). Love love this idea (I agree that it makes more sense on BYC, though I could see it on sufficient self, I just don't have the energy to check a fourth board for only one thing - already doing Easy Garden, BYC, and BYH plus reading organic gardening books

i just checked out self-sufficency and didn't see any sections about chickens.

idk, this is the chicken place. I want to stay here! feels a little sad that it is suggested people like me/with this lifestyle don't belong here, or would "fit better" on a non-chicken site. ouch!

Great dialog.

Now we are talking.

Personally, as I see the changes here in the Northwest toward local and organic, and know that it is not going away. I don't know if the trend is as big elsewhere. Just as a few years ago the biggest and best vehicle was a "good thing", the practices of using chemicals and faster methods of producing food has reached it's peak.... Organics and locally grown are not fads, they are the wave of the future. BYC is a great place to learn new methods that will represent backyard poultry raising of the future.

I agree. I don't eat my chickens - Henny Penny was 11 yrs old when she died and was buried. I find it kind of bizzar that this topic is so sensitive. Where I live, organic is the norm. Why would anyone get pinched over discussing alternative approaches to farming? I've taken classes in soil management, watersheds, and biology classes up the wazoo, and none of my professors dismissed the idea of going w/out chemicals.
I DEFINATELY VOTE FOR AN ORGANIC SECTION, easily and obviously accessible!
THANKS!

I think that a organic/sustainable section on BYC is a great idea. I love the idea of possibly having my flock a sustainable one.

Me too! I would love to see that kind of section here. I really like SufficientSelf too, but there doesn't seem to be many members over there. And I agree that a section here should not be limited to meat birds. JMHO. Thanks!
