Any chance they'll live?

My chicks shipped from Cackle on Wednesday. I was told they were being shipped "2 day arrival" and assumed that meant something like Express, but they actually went Priority mail. They aren't here and won't possibly be delivered until Monday.

I'm anticipating a box of dead babies, but is there any chance some may survive? If so, what should I have lined up to help their chances?

I've read about sugar water & pedialyte, has anyone ever had day old chicks in the mail for 6 days? I'm so sick over this situation.

Call your local post office. If the chicks are there, and there is ANY warm body in the building, they will give you your chicks. May be too late today, but try again first thing in the morning.

Yesterday while they were still open I made calls to our local post office, the next in line, and the regional hub, they all know how to contact me if they see chicks. Our local P.O. got their last truck yesterday morning, it is completely closed today. The regional hub has a note in the back with my name and number and said they would call if by any chance the chicks made it on their trucks, which were expected last night or this morning. USPS and the hatchery couldn't tell me where they would travel through before the regional hub (which is an hour from me).

I was willing to drive any distance to pick them up to save them from such an awful death, but their location is unknown.

That really sucks. I will keep my fingers crossed for them

It is a long time for them to be with out water and food.
I have only ordered chicks one time and since I work out of the home Fri, Sat & Sun I requested they be mailed out on a Monday even if I had to wait a couple extra weeks. If you do order again that may be a good way to go. At least if there is a mix up you won't have to go the weekend.

On a side note I have heard that the USPS may go down to just delivering 5 days a week maybe taking Wednesday off. If they do that will not be good for those who order chicks either

OMG that's insane...2 day delivery by Priority is NOT guaranteed!! (I ship book orders by USPS 3 times a week ~ they guarantee nothing but the premium services.) I can't believe the company shipped them that way. They should have been shipped either UPS overnight, FedEx or USPS Express.

From the USPS website:
Express Mail

Overnight, most locations (2 days to my rural location)
Priority Mail

1 - 3 days (that is business days!)

So it looks like they will (probably) arrive Monday.

Mine were shipped by Express mail on Monday the 29th, and arrived early Wednesday morning...when I picked them up at my (rural) post office, the clerk even said that the chicks were just on the verge of needing food & water, judging by the time they'd been shipped. (I've read that chicks can go 48 hours without water.)

I'm so sorry this happened, and I do hope that at least some, if not all of them, arrive safely. Please let us know the outcome!

...and I'd definitely be raising hell with the hatchery.

I had about 1/2 live with over 5 days of shipping. I am an avid believer in gro-gel. I know the only reason we saved as many as we did is that I gave the whole packet of gro-gel to the 25 chicks.
There is hope.
Good luck!

Thank you farrier! I will have to see if any of the feed stores near me carry it.
