Any chance they'll live?

So sorry....

I did not want to get any more shipped but did. My replacements came in an OK time frame and the third set came in 2 days and all healthy and happy.
It was a very tough decision for me to have some shipped in but to get a breed I wanted there was not much choice.

There is nothing more depressing then dead chicks.

I am so sorry. I know exactly what that call from the post office can do. You’re so excited when you pick it up only to be devastated the very next second! I sincerely hope that the next batch lives and is shipped in a humane time frame if you every do it again. I can’t believe that hatcheries even offer that shipping option. It seems like some animal rights group would have stopped that by now. Personally, I can’t even think about ever doing that again. I’m in the middle of my first hatch now and I have absolutely no clue what I’m doing. With all the problems I’ve had shipping and incubating… any more are coming from the next door neighbor!

I have been watching this tread. so sorry. thats really sad. This is why I buy all my chicks at the feed store or locally raised. Post office here is not always up to the standard I think it should be. I just ordered hatching eggs and am worried about them making it here with such incopetance. {Not saying all postal employees are bad just the few mess up the works, I have had wonderful mail persons in the past} I hope you can find some locally and get some of the breeds you wanted. Maybe someone on here is close to you. Or look on craigs list or something. Hope you have better luck in the future.

oh no...I am SO sorry things turned out this way!! Not the end of the story we were all hoping for. My heart is hurting for you...

I believe the majority of mail-order chicks arrive in due time and safely...this was a HORRIBLE mistake on someone's part at Cackle; I do hope the owner is addressing it so that it never happens again.

Thank you all, I really appreciate it.

I think it was errors on the part of both Cackle (the rep who told me that they were shipping "2-day" delivery) and USPS (even priority mail should have never taken so long, not even on a holiday weekend. That was 5 business days, not 2-3, not even counting the weekend).

I wish I would have gone with my gut and just requested a Monday ship day only from the beginning, but I've learned and will try to hatch what we need if we can, and be more conscientious about ordering live if I ever do that again.

what kind of chicks did you order? Maybe someone on BYC can help you out with eggs....

Sorry your chicks didn't make it

So sorry this happened. I've received a box of dead chicks before from a hatchery. It's really discouraging.

I had ordered Jersey Giants, EE, Dominiques, Light Brahma, & Welsummer... When I read the invoice on the box with the check tallies by their poor little numbers I was completely sickened.

I just won some EE eggs in a one-day auction here and am working on getting a dozen Jersey Giants (those were specially picked by my eight year old, who had read through the poultry catalog for days, so that is my 'priority' breed at this moment because he has been waiting since May for them). I definitely still want some Dominiques & Brahmas, but those were my choices and I can wait until next year or a later time.

If you still need Dominiques, and are interested, I will have some in the fall. I've pretty much stopped hatching for now. It's just too hot.
