Any educated guesses on what breed / gender this chick is?

I did a bit of research and I believe you would just call it a local chicken breed or an Arabi chicken! I found quite a few pics of other native chickens from Kuwait with buttercup combs too! I understand them to just be a sort of landrace breed, so their appearance can vary! Please continue to update! It will grow up to be cool looking bird

Generally speaking from my research, I've found that the majority of neighborhood chickens are a breed called "Arabi" which translates to Arabian; of which from my understanding is a breed that consists of a multitude of breeds of chickens from all over the world but mainly the M.E.N.A region and Asia, that have simply survived the harsh 130 deg fahrenheit summers here in Kuwait and continued to be productive (So they come in all sorts of colors). I know that Western broiler breeds are also commonly flown in and hybridized with the Arabi breed to produce chicks with a stronger resistance to heat. However, there's a fair sized community of people who also raise show chickens, as I've personally witnessed a Roo and two hens sell for over 300USD in a bidding on an Instagram account, which apparently frequently happens here.


I have to admit I'm a little sad to read that people are thinking it's a cockerel. I had this whole plan of having 6-8 hens running around my humble central garden, and collecting multi-colored eggs on the daily. Heck I made a down-payment on a coop and scoured the country to finally find a farm who is going to sell me some Buff Orpington, Lavender Araucana, Maran and Cream Legbar pullets in about two weeks.

I can't have a Roo living in my central garden, the noise would be unbearable since every bedroom has a window that faces the garden.

No, definitely not broilers lol. They all look like show chickens / some fighting roosters. You can check out the Instagram page Kuwaiti Chicken Auctions , however the prices he's yelling are in Arabic... Upon looking at the page again I just saw one chicken that he sold for around 1800 USD, but yes I assume they are for breeding show chickens. The price wouldn't make sense otherwise, and it still doesn't to a laymen to the chicken world like me, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say.

Wow! I can't imagine! I'm in the middle of building a house! If I spent that much on ONE chicken I think my husband might consider murder! LOL I kid, but still! He'd be angry!

That's what I've been thinking, considering the rounded feather shapes and not to mention the wattles haven't begun to grow in yet, but considering this is my first chick, there's a lot I don't know. I'm just going off what I've researched so far
