What is the game with the giant squid? I'm way behind on my games. Last game I sat down and beat was witcher, and skyrim. I wanna know more on some good games, considering the snow is going to start falling
A game involving catching a giant sqwid is something new and surprizing to me.

This game is called ARK: Survival Evolved. It's on a few platforms but I play on steam on the PC. It's a sandbox adventure game that's very minecraft-y, but somewhat more task focused and less build cool things focused. It's definitely my favorite game and has been for a long time.

The tl;dr short short version is that it's minecraft but you get to tame and raise prehistoric creatures (mostly dinosaurs), breed them, and use them to fight or accomplish tasks.

The longer version is it's a sci-fi game. You wake up alone and naked on a deserted island with mysterious technology around you and have to figure out how to survive and thrive. As you level up you get access to new technology and building materials - you start out with like stone spears and end with automatic assault rifle turrets strapped on the backs of brontosaurs as you wander the map killing everything in your path with your living tank. XD

It's like 80% realistic on the first map - the VAST majority of creatures are real, even if they're not totally realistic representations, and can teach you a surprising amount about their real world counterparts. (Theres a lot of creatures you can ride for example that you would never be able to IRL, some things are bigger than they should be or have unrealistic abilities, etc.)
Later maps introduce a lot of fantasy creatures - wyverns, elemental monsters, robots, etc.
There's a story told through scattered journal entries and research notes made by former residents of the world. And there's a few boss monsters to fight that unlock story moments in the game and new abilities. Currently my partner and I are preparing to fight some of those boss monsters - something we've never done before because it's a kind of a lot of effort.

You can see some pictures of he and I working to tame a Gigantosaurus a few posts back from a couple months ago Here.
And here's a screenshot I took of some of the animals and beautiful graphics in the game, even though I play on lower settings. (You can clearly see, T-rex, raptor, and in the background a giant eagle called an Argentavis).;

Upsides, if you like this kind of sandbox adventure loose solve the mystery story type of game OR if you like dinosaurs it's probably one of the best experiences around. It's a totally valid 1P experience, but is better with pals.

Downside, the game files are HUGE, there's some very real wonkiness to the clipping in very specific parts of the map, and the official servers are just a trash heap. Local LAN style gameplay has everyone on a tether to the host so you can't split up. (Unofficial is hit or miss but more hit than miss IMO, it's not the best community I've been in but MOST people are chill.)

When you say "sandbox" do you mean the game has no particular goal or path? I would think based on the opening that your goal would be to eventually leave the island but it seems more the goal is conquering it? It seems like it teaches you a little about dinosaurs so thats pretty cool

Correct, in general it's a build and collect things and do what you want kind of game with no obvious goals or path very much like Minecraft. Like, there ARE bosses to conquer and story to uncover, but they are not the core gameplay.

The goal is definitely conquering the island. In many more competitive servers there are "alpha tribes" that build huge metal bases with giant armies of dinosaurs and rule over the map and other players - the constant raiding/competition to rule is one reason I don't like playing on official servers. Unofficial servers tend to be more cooperative with players trading goods and your stuff only gets stolen if it's REALLY easy to steal or you're never online. On unofficial it's pretty easy to set up a base that is protected without you signing in for a month or two even as a single player - on official you'll probably get raided long before that happens if you don't have a large and experienced team that signs on daily.

It certainly informs you about some pretty wild creatures, including marsupial lions, terror birds, hell pigs, and even giant squids. :lau Almost all the creatures have their scientific names, and research notes about them that talks about their (sometimes fictional, often real) behavior and role in the ecosystem, and there's a huge variety of weird creatures not just the big famous ones (though most of those are there too). My favorite bit is the Therizinisaur which has a research note saying it's a carnivore, but when you feed it it actually only eats veggies. That's a mistake real paleontologists made when they first discovered it - thinking it was a carnivore but then 100 years later discovering it is an herbivore. It's pretty clear the devs loved weird prehistoric animals enough to do their research and do them justice and make them as cool as possible.

Incidentally, the halloween event is coming up in a week and I am VERY excited for it. It's got some goofy horror themed stuff (like skeleton dinosaurs and witch hat skins), special candy that makes your dinosaurs change color, and a very silly boss called the Dodorex (Dodo T-rex cross, it breathes fire) that wanders the map at night and you get cool prizes if you kill it.

I don't think I can kill it. XD TBH it's scary. But I am excited for everything else. Especially excited for the ghost dire wolves that are new this year.

Paper Mario the thousand year door is what I'm playing right now on the GameCube.
I love that game! Still have it, along with a GameCube.

I haven't played any games more recent than... I dunno, maybe 2015 or so. No Switch or handhelds.
As far as Nintendo console games go, I'm a fan of Kirby, The Legend of Zelda, some Mario games -- especially the Mario Galaxy games -- Super Smash Bros. Melee/Brawl, and Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles.
On the XBOX line of systems (we have a 360), I've played some Halo games, Mirror's Edge, Rock Band 2 and 3, and... I think that that's all that I can remember at the moment.
On the PS3, I've played LittleBig Planet and its sequel, as well as LBP: Karting, both Portal games, Tales of Symphonia: Chronicles (both games), and Tales of Zestiria. There are probably a couple more, but I haven't looked at the games in a while.

That was a bit of a novel! Sorry!

Honestly...did not like BOTW like I thought I would. Ive played all the zelda games. After I played BOTW I immediately switched to Windfish and my anger subsided. My ranking is as follows from the 5 I've played recently:

1. Twilight princess
2. Majoras mask
3. Minish cap
4. Windwaker
5. BOTW

As frustrating as Windwaker was...BOTW takes the cake. Heck it takes the bakery. I finally get a good weapon...and it breaks. You cant even repair your weapons. No potions...you have to cook them. Dont get me started on the broken rupee system. Oh and the prize for collecting all the poo? A giant turd. Botw is a giant turd.
Twilight Princess! That's my favorite!
*Cough cough,* sorry, gushing over.
