I have an older (22wks) and younger (12wks) pullet that look exactly alike. However, I have no idea what breed she might be. She was ordered with the Rainbow Layers package from McMurray.
I initially thought black maran, but my friend said maran have feathered feet.
So could she be a black americana? Or something else? Totally guessing here.
She is very inquisitive. Does not like to be caught for us to hold her, but we do it anyways and she does well when held. She seems like a nice hen, not mean at all. She loves to watch me in the coop. She seems slightly bigger than medium; she's a little bigger than my silver spangled hamburgs, but smaller than some of the other standard sizes.

Definatley not a black ameraucana. McMurray dosent sell ameraucanas. They claim too, but they are really easter eggers. Your chicken doesnt have a beard or muffs. I dont think she has a pea comb. Could be a marans. Like chocolateeggs said not all marans have feathered feet (especially hatchery stock).

She won't be something rare like a black Marans, not from MMM's Rainbow Layer deal. I'd bet that's a standard Black Australorp.

x2

under the theory of "when you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras". A plain black chicken from an assortment like that will be an Australorp. They're not sending out something fancy or rare for that, sorry.

I did not read where you got it from, I just looked at the pic. It does look like a Marans though... I have had one that looked JUST like that. However, I do not know much about ordering chicks and if she was pretty cheap, it probably isn't a Marans.
