Yep, it's a cockerel. We intended to have only hens. So y’all are fairly certain she is actually a he? Breed is less of a concern, although I would love to know!
I had one too. But coming from a hatchery, a BSL cockerel sounds much more likely than a single combed, barred, beardless, EE with yellow legs.I have one Barred single combed EE, but has a beard.
I'm not saying its not possible, I'm just saying its not likely.I have one Barred single combed EE, but has a beard.
Did you get it from a hatchery?I have one Barred single combed EE, but has a beard.
The white dot shows that they have the barring gene (your cockerel has it, he’s barred). The black chick, if it was a cockerel, was likely a different non-sexlinked breed.I read on this forum somewhere that the black sex link cockerel’s have a light spot on their head as a chick and the pullets do not, is there truth to this? I wish I had a photo of the one we already got rid of that had the same characteristics as this one, just solid black, but this is a photo of the alleged EE’s 5 days after we brought them home. I don’t remember which was which but they’re the black ones, one of them has the yellow spot on their head.
No, the alleged 3 EE’s and one Golden Comet were the only ones we purchased from TSC. The rest we pre-ordered specially from a reputable local feed store as day-old chicks. The EE’s were more for the kids, for the colorful eggs and so they could “pick” their own from the box at TSC. But it appears we were 2/3 non-egg layers.Did you get it from a hatchery?
