No, the alleged 3 EE’s and one Golden Comet were the only ones we purchased from TSC. The rest we pre-ordered specially from a reputable local feed store as day-old chicks. The EE’s were more for the kids, for the colorful eggs and so they could “pick” their own from the box at TSC. But it appears we were 2/3 non-egg layers.

The white dot shows that they have the barring gene (your cockerel has it, he’s barred). The black chick, if it was a cockerel, was likely a different non-sexlinked breed.

Good to know! These are things I didn’t know when my husband+kids brought them home. I’m learning a lot!

Well I know they come from a hatchery before TSC, but of course TSC employees have no idea where they come from, or how old they are. Lol They only know when they came off the trucks and got shoved into a box. Our local feed store had all the answers! Good to know they are supplied by Hoover, I didn’t know.

Agreed, cockerel... and agreed that I'm not sure he's an EE. Because he appears single barred, which I also agree with, I'd assume he's a black sex link cockerel.

This is all true, but the likelihood is that this is a black sex link cockerel. Since that would be more common than a barred single combed EE.

No, from hatching eggs. But I'm pretty sure you can get that variety from hatcheries occasionally.

Yes, if they’re legbar mix EEs or olive eggers. I don’t think any other type of EE from a hatchery can have barring, unless there’s a designer cross I don’t know of.

I don’t see a crest or leakage on this cockerel, which is why I don’t think he’s a legbar mix. And Olive eggers often have a pea comb, a beard, and/or feathered legs.

Y’all have crushed my husband’s spirit. This is his favorite chicken and now I’ve told him eventually he’ll have to go. Really appreciate the info!
