Honestly, I'm a big fan too. I don't have a lot of time to read, but during my super long commute I listed to them all on CD and loved them. My wife got the books as they came out and had each one read withing a day or two. We both really like the movies even though we know that a lot has to be left out.

My whole family likes Harry. The books are what made the Kinder Major the 4th grade Queen of Reading last year when we finally convinced her to take the tests on the Potter books.

Her tenth birthday party last year had a Harry Potter theme.

A Golden Snitch birthday cake.

A wand making class.

Potion making.

Mrs. Weasely sent her a scarf!

She only invited kids who had read the books so they were all really into it.


The movies started out great but grew progressively further and further from the books with each one to the point I'm not enjoying them much anymore. I'll stay with the books. The last book had a hurried feel to it like she wasn't able to give as much thought to it as she had with the earlier works though the Battle of Hogwarts was great.

Frankly, I'm disappointed that Nagini was not the snake, from book 1. That would have provided some good symmetry and made it so Voldemort had one less ally in his camp. Even his SNAKE owed a debt to Potter! I lost a $50 bet on that one.
