I don't know a whole lot about chickens, I'm fighting my own battle with my nine month baby goat,but I've raised everything from birds to squirrels. It looks to me like a fungus or a parasite. Did you try any antibiotic creams? When I bread Rottweiler s and shelties. I've seen stuff like this. I used bacitracin ointment to prevent infection on the skin. And Watkins petro carbo salve. I’ve raised them from chicks and they are 2. I’ve dealt with a few black spots on combs before but this seems worse. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
I agree on that.It could be early fowl pox from a virus carried by mosquitoes. There is no treatment, and usually chickens recover in around 3 weeks. Do not disturb the scabs, since that can spread the disease. Here is some reading:
