Where do you hike? Favorite seasons? Hike with or without compasses? Winter hikes with snowshoes and/or crampons?

We are starting our first hike of the season today. We'll do the majority of our hiking from Nov. till March. We have noticed less bugs and people on the trails at this time. We are slowly doing all the peaks in the Catskills Mountains, NY. They are small peaks in comparison to the Adirondacks and such, but the Catskill are close. Today's peak is going to be Sugar Loaf.

Thanks for the topo link.

I'll be in the Catskills hunting on Blackberry mountain starting next weekend.

We like to wander, almost any place and any time but black fly season.

Sometimes I get tired, though.

Beautiful country.

I hike and sometimes jog the trails in the Phoenix Mountain preserve every day (but not Sunday's of course)

(Yesterday I tripped on a rock at the end of my hike and I'm pretty banged up.... but I'm going back up tomorrow:) )

Last month we hiked the west fork of Oak Creek Canyon north of Sedona.

Next Saturday I'm taking four of my six sons and we are hiking to the top of Picacho Peak (north of Tucson on I-10).

I'm hoping to do Humphries Peak ( highest peak in AZ) this summer near Flagstaff.

I also do hikes on the Mogollon Rim near Payson, Heber and also north of Young, AZ in the summer.

I hike wherever I happen to be. National parks, national forests, state parks and forests. I often combine hikes with geocaching.

If I'm going to take a long hike in unfamiliar territory or off the beaten path I have a map and compass. My favorite seasons are spring and fall. I haven't done any snow hikes in a while but I have used snowshoes.

My favorite hike/backpack has to be my Grand Canyon trips.

I work for a national forest on the trails crew so I hike everyday to the work site, build and maintain trail, and hike back out.

We enjoy hiking, and here in the Pacific NW there are a lot of places to go and a lot of variety in difficulty. I never hike without a dog or two though. Who else would pull me up those hills?! har har har... we will no take the dogs up to the mountain this year, but I wouldn't exactly call that Hiking per say. Usually we hike around waterfalls and/or the ocean. Like I said, there are MANY places to go hiking here.

Amazingly Beautiful pictures Oblio 13!!! Thanks for sharing them, they are really stunning.

we hike in the adirondacks. i have only done one high peak, but my husband has done more including Mt Marcy(the highest) three times. hicking up there in the fall is great, to above the trees and look down on the colors, wow. i ripped the tendon in my calf on sept 4th and there was no chance of me hiking this fall. we also snow shoe several places. we have also x country skied to the marcy darn, which is on the way to marcy.

WOW! Gorgeous country! I've always enjoyed trail hiking and mostly in the summer and fall. We haven't done any winter hiking, but I would like to some day. We usually camp in the campground at Hanging Rock State Park in NC and hike the trails. They have a lot of pretty ponds and waterfalls that you can hike to. Here's a few pics from our trip a few weeks ago.

When my two youngest kids get a little older, we would like to do some back country/off trail hiking and back packing. Until then, I guess we'll just stick to the trails!
