Any Home Bakers Here?

Had never heard of that breed before, so googled them - Wow! Very majestic, beautiful dogs! I read that they are herding dogs. I wonder if they'd be good at protecting chickens? I sure wouldn't mind having one of them, but my dog Brutus probably would. Lol.

it is one of the best herding breeds and yes start them young 6 to 8 weeks the protection is ingrained natural to the breed

It is a day off for Veterans day observed so of course I am baking!

This is the second time baking the king Arthur flour basic sourdough sandwich bread.

It is kneading in the kitchen aid mixer now. Can't wait until it is ready!

I also took the opportunity to clean out the starter jar. Gotta love sourdough!

What a tease...wish you could really share your bread :)

BTW - my new starter arrived today. :jumpySo maybe I can make my own again soon :bun IMG_7217.jpg

Hi Aria, sorry but no, I'm not Debby. Lol. I know what you mean, it would be nice to meet everyone beyond this thread. I'm still kind of a newbie on here myself, and don't know most people's real names.

How did your Italian bread turn out?

The coconut cream pie turned out well yesterday...I was happy the filling set up nicely and DH ate 2 pieces so this one might be a keeper. DH did say he thought a long time ago I had made a coconut pie that was baked and he liked that one best but I don't know where that recipe went to. If any of you have a baked coconut pie recipe, I'd appreciate a copy.

COCONUT CREAM PIE FILLING
3 Cups whole milk
1/2 Cup sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 Cup cornstarch
4 large egg yolks
2 Tab unsalted butter
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 tsp coconut extract
1 1/2 Cups sweetened flaked coconut

1. In large saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch & salt. Mix well, then slowly whisk in milk & egg yolks. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils. Boil & stir 1 minute. Remove from heat.
2. Stir in butter & extracts. Add coconut and mix thoroughly. Pour immediately into pie shell (I used a graham cracker crust).
3. Chill in the fridge at least 2 hours before serving. Garnish with whipped cream.
That recipe is similar to mine. I do mine cold with cool whip or bake it with merengue, both are delicious. I don’t use coconut extract.

If not too late ( all gone) do post pic :).

Didn't take a pic of the overnight feed of the new starter - but it is quite active and so promising.:bun
Congratulations on the new starter!
