Two new words for me today --- had to look up Kolaches and brotform :D.

Would love to see the clay rooster cookie stamp pic when you get time.

You can take the rest of the day off now, that's enough learning for anyone, lol!

The cookie stamp came with a couple of recipes, if I have all the ingredients, I'm going to give it a go. Will let you know how it turns out!
 
Hello bakers (oldies and newbies)! Got back home yesterday after being out of town for the weekend.

My cousin & SIL and I went to Ft. Collins Saturday and went to a wonderful kitchen store, tons of things covering about any area of baking or cooking you can name. It took a lot of restraint but I limited myself to a brotform for bread rising, a clay rooster cookie stamp and some specialty coffee beans for DH.

Looks like you all were pretty busy this weekend too! @cmom great to see your photo! And a belated "Thank You" to all the service people, your hard work and sacrifices are not forgotten or unnoticed. DH was in the Navy during the Cold War, he says we won :)

@penny1960 your doughnut post reminded me of my G-ma. She was the school & town baker for years and whenever she would come to visit, we'd come home from school to find the kitchen counters covered with her doughnuts and Kolaches. Makes my mouth water remembering those wonderful aromas & tastes.

Time to grab another cup of coffee and catch up on posts. It's good to be back!

Just bought a new bag of flour and it is labeled not to eat flour or dough.

First time I've ever noticed this, wonder why - I usually do taste flour if worried about freshness.
There was a place that had salmonella in the flour. It would need to be cooked to 150 degrees to kill it.

Flour is like commercial eggs now!

How does bacteria get into flour? Dirty grinders?

The Food and Drug Administration recently made a perhaps surprising recommendation: Don't eat raw flour.

The warning issued last week came in response to an outbreak of E. coli that has sickened at least 42 people in 21 states since December. The FDA tracked the outbreak to a batch of General Mills flour sold under the brand names Gold Medal, Gold Medal Wondra and Signature Kitchens, triggering a recall.

Gee is there nothing safe anymore? The first time folks got sick eating green leafy veggies was a shock. I think it's using bad fertilizer or something in the GMO genes :duc

The yellow jello recipe I posted last week has raw egg yolks in it!

How have we not all died eating this since the mid 1970's!

Chocolate chip cookie dough has both raw eggs and flour in it!

Then it is human poop fertilizer causing this for sure :sick.

The warning was on White Lily flour bag and King Arthur sourdough info booklet.
When FDA finds an issue, they make everyone add the warning.
