Any Home Bakers Here?

Is everyone planning for Thanksgiving dinner yet? I just realized it's next week! This year is wrapping up quickly.

It will be just DH & I for Thanksgiving so we're keeping meal plans pretty simple (at least, that's what we're saying now). I think we'll do a baked turkey breast, baked sweet potatoes and dressing. And pumpkin pie of course :D
We're debating here. Got 10 turkeys in the freezer that haven't sold, two monster turkeys that aren't for sale, a ham and a ny strip roast. Hmmmm decisions decisions:idunno:confused::idunno

Instant Hot Coco Mix

Huge Note: Powdered milks are not created equal. We taste tested more than a dozen brands before we settled on this mix. Range of results went from Horrible/nasty - too rich.

QTY Unit Description
2 Cup Powdered sugar
1 Cup cocoa (dutch process)
2.5 Cup powdered milk
1 tsp Salt
2 tsp cornstarch
1 pinch cayenne or chipolte pepper (Optional)
5.5 Cups Serving Size (1/4 cup or 4 coffee scoops) add hot water and freeze dried marshmallows. I'll generally double the recipe and we have huge air tight container to keep it in. Made my last batch in January.

If you like it richer, creamier you can use Nido Milk, but in taste test, DW thought that was too much.

Edited to change the first milk link.

We were just discussing this last night at my parent's house. Thanksgiving dinner is almost always there, but we provide the turkey. We have the guest of honor picked out and he will be starting his journey to the table on Sunday afternoon or Monday morning. We'll be having mashed potatoes, stuffing, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, possibly baked corn, rooms, Pumpkin pie and apple if mom is feeling adventurous and I've been asked to make lemon lush (lemon pudding layer dish with cream cheese, walnut crust, and whipped cream)

Turkey breast is a good choice for two!

I want to try this

Brussels Sprouts with Cornbread Croutons Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 pounds Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups cubed day-old cornbread (1/2-inch cubes)

      • 1/4 cup salted butter
      • 1 shallot, minced
      • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves

  • How to Make It
    Step 1
Preheat oven to 425ºF. Toss together first 4 ingredients in a large bowl; divide evenly between 2 rimmed baking sheets. Bake in preheated oven until golden brown, about 20 minutes. Reduce oven heat to 350°F.

    Step 2
Spread cornbread cubes evenly on a baking sheet; bake at 350°F until browned and crispy, about 15 minutes.

    Step 3
Cook butter, stirring constantly, in a medium skillet over medium until foaming. Add shallot and thyme; cook, stirring often, 1 minute. Drizzle butter mixture over toasted cornbread. Arrange Brussels sprouts in a serving dish; top with cornbread mixture.

Ron, I have 2 Large and 1 small Rusty Vintage Universal Bread Buckets. When I sold bread (years ago) I used all three. When I stopped baking bread I stored the Buckets in the basement. MISTAKE. I have a large house and should have given them space.
When I met...you and all on this thread...I started baking bread and thought about my Bucket. I am cleaning the small one. I googled
How to Clean and resulted in: 1. scrub with SOS pad 2. fine sandpaper 3. baking soda for one hour and then scrub with SOS pad
Have done 1. and 3. waiting for husband who is out shopping and will pick up fine sandpaper. The Bucket looks much better. More scrubbing to be done. While Google search on how to clean..
I found you can purchase them on ebay. VERY EXPENSIVE and $45 for shipping. Guess I have a treasure to scrub.

A lot of the old vintage cook and bake ware is very expensive now. Old cast iron skillets are going for a lot of money now
