Using a sharp knife, the beans are split and the seeds are removed with the tip of a knife.
The seeds are very good in vanilla ice cream. Usually you poach the beans in hot milk for a while first.
You can take a bean and put it in your sugar jar too for vanilla-y sugar.

My m-i-l gave me an old stand mixer “but I think it was smoking when I used it last.” Sure enough, that thing was smoking like a chimney!
