Hello,

@penny1960, this was a small hen. There were a lot of ducks flying around the decoys when I took it, and it looked bigger. Took out the breasts and made a maple-glazed pan fry duck breast. It's pretty delicious.

I didn't have the ingredients for duck a l'orange.

@BullChick, don't know if your joking or not. Regardless, thanks for saying that.

This was actually my first duck. In Idaho, you can take up to 7 Mallards a day, no more than two can be female.

On a side note, I took my Goose out of the freezer to thaw for Thanksgiving. As I mentioned before, it needs to thaw for 48 hours, then I need to do some steps, then let the skin dry for another 48 hours.

As soon as it thaws, I will do the finishing touches on the plucking. I just noticed I missed a few feathers on the legs.

Just 4 days left!

Too bad you can’t drink. Nothing is more entertaining than sitting at the table with a bird laying in the middle, scorching off feathers with a Zippo, and getting drunk.

My duck just hatched one baby. She’s a Muscovy, the father is Pekin. That combination makes hinnies. Still a mule duck. Assuming it’s male, I will have to do something with it. I have had duck now, and while I don’t hate it, it’s not right to kill a duck just for me. I still have jars of the last one.

Hello,

@BullChick, that's what I thought. Just making sure.

By the way, just for clarification, I am 21, 22 in January. I could drink, like you said, but I actually choose not to.

Three reasons:

First reason is that I have seen people who were drunk, got violent, and bad things happened to them legally. I have a friend who almost lost custody of her kid because she was drunk and doing bad stuff.

Second, I have a Class A CDL. If I have any alcohol in my system, and get caught, I could lose my CDL for a year or even life. Too much of a risk there.

Third and finally, I and everyone else in my Church, believe that alcoholic drinks are not for the body. I prefer to stick to my beliefs.

I hope this explains why I dont drink that kind of stuff.
