Any Home Bakers Here?

Stuff will freezer burn if air can get to it. Eventually, the plastic covering gets a hole in it somewhere and whatever is inside will start to dry out. The freezer burn is just dried out areas of whatever is in the bag.
Yes! The dry part can be cut off and the meat should be fine to eat. It can have an odd taste though

I vacuum seal my freezer items. We have been eating steaks that were frozen in 2013 to 2016. They are really good and the flavor is still there. Once they are thawed they look like they were just bought.

Freezers can keep things way longer than the USDA recommends. Keep in mind where the dollars come from. Same for can goods. I've eaten things that were canned 40+ years ago and it was fine.
Same here Bob!

Not quite 40 but a lot longer than the year claimed for jelly.

By the same token, older canned goods can go bad. I have opened commercially canned goods that were 10+ years old and they were not edible. They were still edible after 2 to 3 years but not once they were really old.

I agree. We get Vacuum sealed Deer from our hunting friend. AND they
really do keep "forever". With just the two of us I gave my large freezer
to my son. We have a small freezer on the bottom of our refrigerator. We find this is much better for us. You can SEE all that you have, easier
for us. I try NOT to freeze too much. I prefer to purchase keep for a short period of time...and use. What ever works for YOU is best. This
works for us. Aria
