Any Home Bakers Here?

Hopefully birds growing up in silkie will have a cockerel never really wished
for more but now can process .. have not cut up a bird in like forever if I ever did.
Okay maybe from theirs or the store ? with my Aunt back in college

So, I went to the store and bought a chicken. I bought it to practice processing birds for duck and goose season. I did some research, and found a tutorial on how to process birds.

Here is the result. Photo may be graphic for some.

Thighs, Drumsticks, Breasts, Tenderloins, Wings, Wing Tips, and Giblets.

The only thing I think I could have done better is the skin on the breast. Some of it got cut off.

Other than that, I know how to process a bird now!
It is good to practice cutting up a chicken!

The hardest part for many is killing, plucking or skinning and dressing(removing the organs).

I freeze the processed chicken whole and cut it up when ready to cook it

Nice job!

A couple of items that resembled baking this afternoon. Home made tortilla chips and a triple batch of dutch babies.
I've come to a compromise on the dutch babies.....I'm ok if they don't puff spectacularly or look as nice as the pictures. They use more eggs, which I have a bunch of, and less GF flour, which I never have enough of, yet still give that bready feel of having pancakes or muffins and that keeps kiddo happy. Less pretty but more filling.
Also put some big potatoes in the bottom for upcoming country hashbrowns.

Probably won't do bread for another week.

Could not say how we did cripes it was like 42 years ago on cutting a bird will probably
use utube for it ...
We did not do dutch babies but recalled a funny name
Aebleskiver

Ingredients

2 eggs (separate them)

2 c flour

2 tsp baking powder

1 tbsp white sugar

1/2 tsp salt

4 tbsp butter, melted

2 c buttermilk

1 c vegetable oil for frying

Directions

In a clean glass or metal bowl, beat the egg whites with an electric mixer until they can hold a stiff peak. Set aside.

Mix together the flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda, sugar, egg yolks, melted butter and buttermilk at one time and beat until smooth. Gently fold in the egg whites last.

Put about 1tablespoon of vegetable oil in the bottom of each aebleskiver pan cup and heat until hot. Pour in about 2 tablespoons of the batter into each cup. As soon as they get bubbly around the edge, turn them quickly (Danish cooks use a long knitting needle, but a fork will work). Continue cooking, turning the ball to keep it from burning.
