Any Home Bakers Here?

Good morning! Got all my butternut squash cooked and frozen yesterday.

I'm brewing another batch of kombucha today.

I am soooo hoping my compost pile is thawed enough to turn.

Dang, I could post this same thing in the cafe thread and the gardening thread. :lau

I should get one of the pints of squash back out of the freezer to make grownies (my 9x13 pan version of breakfast cookies). I've done it before; use it to moisten the oats. Then, instead of cocoa, use cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves and go for a pumpkin pie type of taste instead of chocolate.

I really have to make a start on my kombucha, reading your post has reminded me.
I've never made this before. Do I use just tea and sugar, can we use honey? I have a large jar already to go should this be kept in a warm dark cupboard.

Please forgive so many questions

I love squash and must do similar with what I have here.

Here's are links that has way more information than I can type out.

Here's how to grow your own scoby (SCOBY = symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast)
if you don't have access to one:

This is about brewing kombucha:

Use sugar, not honey. You can make kombucha with honey, but you have to grow a scoby that will work, is my understanding. Honey and kombucha have different bacteria that don't "play well together."

There are a lot of sites about kombucha; it's gotten very popular. I love it. I couldn't afford to drink so much of it if I didn't make my own.

If you have specific questions, just ask. You can spend $$$ on all the stuff you need, but if you have some quart canning jars, you can get started for the cost of the tea, sugar, and a purchased bottle to grow your own scoby.

Okay, here's my try at breakfast cookies. I added ocean spray cranberries and walnuts.
Not as pretty as others, but they taste good!
