Any Home Bakers Here?

This is going to be a fun thread. 🙂 I just made my first, "from scratch - no machines" loaf of bread, last week. I've recently learned pressure canning (have done water-bath canning, many times). I love making my own bone broth. Today I made another fresh batch of yogurt. I'm learning fermentation and bought a freeze dryer, this year. I have many jars of powdered, freeze-dried eggs. Those will be handy during "no-lay" periods.

I feel for you.

Of course, the oven had to wait till yo had so many projects to bake.

Do you have a neighbor that would let you use her oven?

Of course, you would have to think about payment ie: loaf of bread dozen cookies, and etc.

Good luck!
It's a good thought, Ladies-Eight, but no joy. We are very isolated out here and I don't know any of my neighbors well enough to ask this of them. I thought (briefly!) about making bricks, gathering slime from the river, and building an horno in the back yard, like my ancestors did ... 🤔 But thought better of it! 🤣🤣🤣

:clap good for you! I've done "all the above" with the exception of fermenting and freeze-drying. Sounds interesting! I made and pressure canned broth from our smoked Thanksgiving turkey and a chicken the other day, but have not tried it yet. So much fun to be had in the kitchen!

and bought a freeze dryer, this year.
Ooo! What kind? DH and I are interested in getting one, but have many questions. Like:

Cost, to buy and to run?
How loud is it?
Can we run it in a an unheated room in the winter, that might get down to 40F?
How long would it take to FD eggs, for example?

Bread to go with stew tonight, had to grab a few baby carrots from the garden as well.

Welcome to bread baking from scratch!

It is very satisfying to make bread with your hands.

I made a yummy vegetable soup and an even better potato soup yesterday and today, to share with a very good friend who is down with Covid. Not quite as much fun as baking, but still satisfying and useful!
That's exactly what I did today... it took age's because I threw in so many different vegetables and fennel root from a local farm plus I had some okra and root ginger.
It was really worth my time and effort 👌
