Well, I learned a hard lesson about maple tree tapping.

I decided to boil down my sap today, when I noticed that it was not clear anymore. It was very murky, and a slight yellow color. The texture was also very weird.

Taste and smell was also off.

After doing Internet research, I discovered that I did not store the sap properly, and this caused severe bacterial growth.

I lost 30.25 cups of sap today. That’s about one cup of syrup for my trees sap to syrup ratio.

New rule, next year, I need to store the sap outside where it is cold, and clean the bucket frequently.

I made blueberry scones, and they aren’t awesome. I am kinda sad about that. I think I should try again, and let the berries sit in the sugar for a few minutes. Or, I can add vanilla extract for a little more flavor. E9CCA144-DD73-448D-A2A2-AF06A2528F1F.jpeg

Awww, maaan! That's really sad, Jared! After all that hard work. Well. Live and learn, I guess. I never would have guessed your sap could grow bacteria. Thanks for sharing, though. Now I'll know, if I ever find a tree to tap. :hugs

So sorry to hear this, Jared. But thank you for sharing the knowledge.

I shared them with the neighbors, and they asked for more. Apparently I just don’t love blueberries.

How did I only now remember I don’t actually like most blueberries?
In the moment when we look at recipes and it sounds very good, I am assuming most people that have been baking for several years understand.
