Excellent. Good for you.....time to enjoy. AriaIt’s a german recipe, they are called „Heidesand“ which kind of translates to „heathsand“, I think cos they are supposed to look kind of like beach sand. I forgot they turn brown the instant you turn your back on them, and the timing in the recipe was way off! It is a kind of shortbread, where you first brown the butter, then you mix sugar , flour, pin^ch of salt and vanilla into the dough, form them into rolls and put them into the fridge. After 12 hrs you cut the cookies and bake them. They are hard but very delicious ( I think I ate 6 dark ones )![]()
The sand part might also be a description of the crumb of the cookie. It’s a german recipe, they are called „Heidesand“ which kind of translates to „heathsand“, I think cos they are supposed to look kind of like beach sand. You... you mean ... sometimes you DON'T set a timer for baking cookies?I have to set a timer or ... every time,

With my desktop convection oven, I can set the time that it is on-- it will turn off and not burn things that way...I still set a timer though!You... you mean ... sometimes you DON'T set a timer for baking cookies?
If I didn't set a timer, I'd remember them when the smoke alarm went off.

that is the best rule for preventing kitchen fires! That reminds me.
We actually almost had a fire in the house yesterday because someone left a pan of oil on the stove without turning it off.
We smelled something burning. When I went to the kitchen, I saw a pan of oil was SMOKING on the stove.
I grabbed the fire extinguisher (the kind for grease and kitchen fires,) when I saw the smoke. Fortunately there were no flames, so I didn’t need it. I turned off the stove and removed the pan from the heat.
We caught it just in time.
We don’t know who left the stove on, but we have a new rule. Don’t leave the stove on and unattended.
