Any Home Bakers Here?

T- day I made 2 pumpkin pies, froze one. The first is gone…So took the second one out of freezer and baked it today..

It looks great, gonna try it tonight. Never froze a pie before, used to just discard the extra filling.

Did you freeze it unbaked?
I never have to worry about what to do with the extra filling because there never is any. I put any excess into a custard cup or two and bake it with the pies. It is my cooks sample, to test and see if it is decent to serve to friends and family, lol!

You guys I'm super excited! I was at a local store and found a sourdough bread mix and a sourdough bread start! I bought both and I'm going to do the mix (just add water) tomorrow! My first time making sourdough. The im excited to do the start an make my own sourdough bread with my own starter.

I hope you have goodluck with the bread mix. I have never really liked the flavor of the sourdough mixes, they just seem to taste fake somehow. DH and I are spoiled with the "real"stuff, well as real as I can make it from scratch. I would love to get a sourdough starter that has been going for a long time. Mine are just something I start, use for a year and then it goes funky on me.

@wyoDreamer I'm sure the mix will be ok, but not as good as real sourdough. I've never made my own start or sourdough bread. Sourdough intimidates me! Lol. So I got the mix so I'd finally make some. Could you post instructions on how you make your own start? I really want to make my own. I love sourdough, but have just never made it.

WyoDreamer, I'd like to see how you do your starter too.

I made rolls today. Here are the sesame seed ones (did some with poppy seed too):

DH started a new job 2 weeks ago and is taking his lunch most days so these will come in handy.

Yummy! Those look amazing!

Here's my bread. Just pulled it out. Have not tried it yet.

Your bread looks good too! Sometimes it's hard to resist tearing into a hot-out-of-the-oven loaf, lol.

Just tried it. It doesn't have a very strong sourdough taste. More just like white bread. I'm going to make the starter later this week and see about getting a good start and maybe try another loaf in a week or so.

I made an extra pumpkin pie, placed it in freezer overnite unbaked. Next morning wrapped in plastic wrap and tinfoil. When I wanted to bake it, pre warmed oven and placed pie in frozen. Was truly as good as the fresh baked one…could not tell the difference.

Found the tip on BHG - experts said it couldn't be done, but a reply told how to do it...

I tried making my own starter a few years ago from a starter recipe in a bread book….really didn't like it..
Last year I ordered starter and the crock from KA and it is mild and I love it. And real shock here….it's still alive!

Do you have a bread maker or do all by hand? I am a cheater and use my machine on dough cycle to get all started.

I made this sourdough loaf out of abox kit, usually I do bread from scratch. I don't use a bread maker. Whenever I have tried bread maker bread I haven't really like it. It tastes to yeasty. I think because it's all dumped in to rise and cook and I usually let mine rise twice and make more then one loaf, so less yeasty. It could also just be all in my head because growing up the bread was homemade and I just think bread maker bread isn't as good
