Any Home Bakers Here?

Not a bad idea, just no cream on hand. Oh well, they can't all be keepers, right?
Yes you are.

I took a look at the recipe and interesting how folks rate that one….some stated great, moist and others stated dry and disappointed. And KA responded to the dry comments with link to another one that would be better

I had a brownie recipe that was like that. I think it was one from BYC. Some people said moist and wonderful, and some people said dry and tasteless.
The first time I made them, they were good, second time fantastic, and third -dry and tasteless.
The only difference was the oil that I used. When I tried coconut oil they were fabulous. Butter was good too. soy was blaaa.

DH and I have plans for that cake! We're going to cut off the frosting, which btw, is candy bar hard now, slice the cake into thin pieces and layer it with whipping cream (DH is picking some up today). We're going to break up the frosting and use it as a sprinkle on top. It will make a dandy refrigerator cake!

Hope it's ok to post about pie?

I usually grow Butternut squash and Pumpkins for my winter stash. This year I decided to try something different and grew Buttercup squash. They did very well and I have given some away. I have roasted a couple with just salt, pepper and butter and they were good. Yesterday I made pies (who doesn't like pie) and "Oh My"! Delicious.

Sort of a cross between Butternut, Pumpkin and possibly Sweet Potato Pie. I didn't have apple juice so I used apple sauce instead. I also just make my own crust and chose to use a butter crust this time. Very Rich! Will make this one again. I have a few squash left, so will probably make for Thanksgiving.

I believe I speak for the entire baking community when I say that pies are always a good think to talk about! Your pie sounds delicious! DH claims he isn't a fan of squash - yes ALL squash. He had traumatizing experiences with certain foods as a child and has developed aversions to them. But isn't it funny whenever I make squash and add it to recipes, he likes it just fine!

I know sweet potato pie is usually sweet, and I'm guessing your buttercup squash pie is sweet like that @Wyorp Rock ? Do you ever make a savory pie? I was going to try one with some of my tomatoes this year but never did.

Welcome to the home baker's thread!

Buttercup squash is our favorite so your pie sounds great to me. We didn't have a lot of luck growing any kind of squash this summer but I'm going to keep your recipe for when we try again next year.

We talk about all kinds of baked (and some not baked) stuff here so feel free to share anything you like. And pictures are always nice too!

@Wyorp Rock I have never tasted Butternut squash, no one around here grows it, but I think it may be available at the grocery.

I love roasted or grilled ( or casseroled) summer squash. Guess you would cook it the same way? Would love to try it.

I knew you would give in and make that whipped cream

Believe it or not, I have never made real whipped cream. Really don't remember eggzactly but seems they used to make an instant type that came in a package dry I tried when I was a teenager.

Would you share directions for your Real Whipped Cream - I gotta try it.

The stuff in the packet is called dream whip. They still make it and it is a low fat alternative.

Whipping cream? Simple!

1C whipping cream
1tsp. Vanilla
2is tablespoons of sugar--taste it! you do not need much
a shake of salt

Whip it until it is whipped cream consistency--about 3 minutes on high

Do not whip it too long or butter will form!
