Any Home Bakers Here?

@sunflour you must have been extra good this year to hear from Santa so soon! I've never had a Dutch oven but any kind of soup sounds good. If you don't want chicken so close to T-day, what about a beef stew?

I took DH with me to a kitchen shop to explore the Dutch Ovens and to compare and see if an ole lady could lift one

Didn't plan to go home with one, but never knew DH ( AKA my personal chef) had been wanting one too. So let him pick the one he wanted So guess that leaves me another choice for MY santa gift.

Still looking at that chicken/chard recipe . I have grown it for my flock, but never tasted chard. So T day or not, gonna go to grocery and see if they have chard and if not the recipe sub is spinach. Got the pot washed and ready to go. Will let ya know what we try.

I eat chard all the time. It is very similar to spinich, just bigger leaves and so easier to grow.

Gee, y'all have been quite busy here. I have been away only a short time and so many posts to catch up on

Found lots of recipes to try it out - found one on martha's site : One Pot Chicken and Rice with Swiss Chard - sounds easy and tasty but don't know I want chicken now with T day coming up?

There are several recipes for easy baked bread in dutch ovens and would luv to try that. But my pot's care directions warn not to heat the pot empty

Anyone baked bread in an enameled Dutch Oven?
That is great news!

Heating empty is usually for a burner on a stove. You should be fine baking bread in an oven.

I want to try this:

Hi all, my mom used to work at an old-age care home and one year, as a fundraiser, they collected some of the residents' favourite recipes and compiled a recipe book, which they sold. This recipe for Apricot cookies was in the book and became a firm favourite in our family. I always roll the dough in balls and bake it in a flat tray, but I think it will work better in a muffin or even a cake pan:

Apricot Cookies

8 cups cake flour
4 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 lb butter/margarine
1 cup apricot jam
2 tablespoons bicarb soda

Mix dry ingredients and rub in butter/marg (the easiest way I found to do this is by hand)
Beat eggs and mix in jam
Mix all ingredients together
Roll dough into balls roughly the size of golf balls, and place them about 2 inches apart on a baking tray (they will collapse when baking and end up fused together)

Bake at 180*C/356*F for ± 20-30 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
