Any Home Bakers Here?

Wheat is fairly easy to grind, especially if you have an electric grinder. The thing to keep in mind is that using the whole wheat will make the recipes very "heavy." I usually use half whole wheat, half all purpose. Then with the added flax, they should be tasty.

I hadn't thought of that extra fibre bit. Ta!

For the banana blueberry bread is it Dark or Light Brown sugar?

I have used both--It really depends on which one you like more. I like dark brown sugar but I like molasses flavor more too. If Molasses is not your favorite flavor, use the light brown sugar.

The default for brown sugar is to firmly pack it...or is that just me?

I swear I was taught that in a 4-H cooking class I took.

It is homemade so it is much healthier than a mix.

I knew it, but have never seen a recipe not list it as firmly packed. DH's opine was not to do so. It is quite tasty anyway, but would be better with more brown sugar.

Being raised a "city gal", never even heard of 4-H until I was almost grown.

Just Girl Scouts - and my troop never did anything really fun :(

I almost never buy mixes - except Ginger Bread quick bread once a year. This year couldn't find it and made if from scratch, and it was so, so much better. Surprisingly the mixes really don't "save time", very little difference in prep time.

It's a cold, blustery morning and the temps are going down (supposed to hit a low of 29*). I think this would be a good morning for Ron's Yeast Pancakes with blueberries!

Have a good day everyone

I have been looking for recipes that use flax seeds, most I have found are muffins.

Did y'all know that flax seed lowers the risk of ovarian cancer? The studies showing this are with chickens - they have a high rate of ovarian cancers - and flax seed in their feed significantly reduces the incidence. And current research on human ovarian cancer prevention and treatments are coming from poultry studies! But if you research flax seed there is a warning about not eating too much, haven't figured out how much is beneficial..yet.:)

Thanks for the information, that's really interesting!

Good morning, we have a dusting of snow - but all I can see in the dark is my deck so far. We are supposed to see some flurries up till 10 am or so --- cold and very windy today.

Enjoy the pancakes, I'm having a slice of the sweet bread for breakfast today..

I think it was all the banana blueberry bread talk and pictures that made me think of the pancakes. No bananas but I still have a small stash of the blueberries we picked last year in the freezer.

Hope you don't get much snow. The wind was blowing so much here this morning, the girls went out into their covered run and came right back inside the coop. Little chickeny chickens, lol. I threw a couple handfuls of BOSS on their hay floor and left them happily pecking and scratching.
