Thanks, the blueberries I have were gifted to me and they are so sweet on their own. Next time will 1/2 the sugar back to the original recipe amount, add double or more blueberries, double the cornstarch and all the rest by the recipe. I guess the original was for store bought blueberries?

Seconds tonite were even better than the first run last nite.

Hey, now you're just teasing us!

Our blueberries are starting to turn blue. Our bushes are having an off year and not nearly as many berries on the bushes this year. DH said let the birds have them but I am going to put the net up, heck with the birds I want to eat them.

Planted my patch last year and most are loaded with forming berries. Have debated the netting, but doubt I will put one up. Don't want to risk birds getting caught in the netting.

Someone gave me the berries I am using - in freezer since last year but still sweet and good.

Quote: This patch has been in for many years.I have never had any problems with birds getting stuck in the netting. Years ago I had too large of mesh and the birds went through it like a highway so then went to a smaller mesh and no birds getting in or stuck in the netting. Must be smart birds.

Blueberry bushes maybe a couple of years after planting them and before we relocated the coops behind the barn.

In the background a couple of years ago with the netting over them and the coops.

Thanks for info. I do remember these pics from a past post.

Ok, will look for bird netting with small holes - I really want to taste some of my berries this year. And figure a way to use it. My fence is only 4 feet tall - don't want to have to crawl around to pick the berries :)

We have a door on one end and cut some of the netting to fit the door. Maybe you can put extensions on your posts to make it higher. You could add 18" wire around the top. Just a thought.

Thanks. Showed DH the pics and he has a plan. Add 6 foot posts down the center to support the net and attach with ties to the existing fence. Will have to be creative for the gate area - but will may do that like my monitored chicken playground - netting with bamboo on the end, lay it over and can just flip it up to enter.

Will not be as nice as your set up. But will post pics when we get it done. My BB's are quite small so we have lotsa time I think....seems that the birds will leave those alone til they are fat, juicy and ripe?

My dad has found a dead bird in his netting and we found a female bowerbird in ours. Luckily it was still alive and after a few pecks from her and some snipping by us she got to live to fly another day.

I do wonder if it's when the netting is draped over rather than pegged down tight as we had no problems with the pulled taught netting on the blackberries despite birds landing on it to or try and get the berries but the times they got caught were both loose netting.

Here, I do have the netting pulled fairly taught. We have 2ft of chicken wire around the bottom and the netting also goes to the ground.
